Windrose – How to Beat Enemy Ships

By Kirthana KFebruary 24, 20263 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Naval combat requires upgraded ship gear equipped on it.
    • You and your crew can participate in face-to-face combat if you get close enough to the ship.
    • Ships can be repaired at the wharf after battle or using the ship repair kit while at sea.

Exploring your tiny starter island isn’t all that you get to do in Windrose. You also get to participate in a battle against enemy ships. As part of the tutorial, you will be tasked with fending off the first enemy ship. If you are unfamiliar with how naval combat works, then things can go downhill quickly.

    Preparing the Ship for Battle

First, follow the game’s questline to build a wharf and dock your ship close to it. Use the ship management menu within it to equip the cannon, boarding rack, and hull bracing. You could also hop onto the ship and press Q while near the wheel to enter the ship’s management menu and add items to it. You will also require a Ship Smithy to upgrade your gear and make it powerful.

Once done, you are now ready to set sail and look out for Blackbeard’s Ketch. Get on the wheel and use the navigation keys to steer your ship. Do note that the faster you sail, the harder it will be to turn. It is best to slow down to at least ¾ sail to improve your turn rate. This will help you aim your cannons better while near the enemy ship. Also, pick up speed if you spot the enemy ship trying to overrun you, as this spells disaster.

    Dealing with the Enemy Ship

Aiming and shooting at the enemy ship is similar to using a gun. Use the mouse buttons to aim and fire a cannon while calculating the distance. If the ship is further away, or if you are sailing on high tides, then this will negatively impact the reach of your cannonball. Aim for their sails to slow them down and get as close as possible to deal enough damage.

With enough damage, you will see the ship’s health bar start getting lower. Once it’s low enough, you can start the boarding process. Dock your ship as close as possible to the enemy ship and use your guns to shoot at the pirates. Then, you and your crew can get on board and kill all the pirates on the ship. Keep an eye on the counter in the top right corner to know how many pirates you need to kill. Once done, get back to your ship and interact with the helm to complete the quest.

    FAQs

I can’t seem to use the wharf. What do I do?

You need to build the wharf near the shoreline or pier while also being within the parameters of the bonfire. Then, park your ship as close to the wharf as possible, and interact with the wharf to get the ship management menu.

My ship keeps breaking down while at sea. What do I do?

Carrying ship repair kits will help you repair your ship on the go. If destroyed, you can recall and fix your ship at the wharf.

What do I get for clearing out an enemy ship?

You will be offered various rewards like the Insignia of a Blackbeard Lieutenant, Naval Supplies, Piastre, and Contraband.
