How Babies Work Explained

Babies are regarded as new residents added to your island. Like real life, a baby will require a couple to fall in love and get married. I thought getting my Miis hitched would be easy, but this step required a lot of time and some intense planning where I had to play matchmaker to set up a couple.
Once the Miis have successfully entered the dating scene, I had to wait even longer for one of them to think of proposing. With some nudging in the right direction and after winning a proposal mini game, the Miis finally said their vows. Once all that is done, the real waiting began. A few days later, the newlyweds called me up with some good news – that they had a baby.
Customizing the Baby

Initially, you get to pick the gender of the newborn. You can pick between 3 options: boy, girl, or no preference. Leaving it to no preference will randomly assign a gender to it. As for the traits and personality of the baby, you can pick whether they would be more like one of the parents or have equal personality traits from both parents.
During the first few days of handling the baby, all you can do is help the new parents whenever they call for you. That includes playing a few min-games with the baby to help calm it down. After a week of tending to the newborn, they will turn into a toddler. Now, you get to add several features before turning them into a full-time resident.
While checking their profile, you get to pick their name, birthday, and dating preferences. But one feature that you can tweak from the get-go is their age.
Adult or Child

Children will come with customizable profiles, so head over to their profile and select the Age option on the far right side. Under this, you get to pick whether the child will stay under 18 forever or become an adult. When a Child becomes an Adult, which is someone over 18, they get to access all the game’s features. That includes falling in love, starting families, and participating in events.
Children, on the other hand, will have limited access to the island’s activities. You can always toggle the age settings whenever you feel like shifting the dynamic. But having some kids alongside adults will give you a vastly different experience than having an island filled with adults.
The only common feature between adults and children is that they both can be sent to different islands if you don’t need them on your current island.
