    By Jordan BlakeJanuary 20, 2026Updated:January 20, 20263 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Sturdy Chitin is a resource mainly obtained from armored enemies in Hytale.
    • The best farming method is clearing Scarak nests found in the underground areas of the desert biome.
    • It’s required for important crafting upgrades like the Armorer’s Workbench and Tanning Rack.

Sturdy Chitin is one of the first materials in Hytale that really pushes players out of the comfort of Emerald Grove and into harsher environments. While it isn’t locked behind a boss fight, collecting enough of it can take time if you don’t know where to look. This guide explains exactly where Sturdy Chitin comes from and the most efficient way to farm it without wasting hours roaming the desert.

How To Get Sturdy Chitin in Hytale

Follow the steps below to get Sturdy Chitin efficiently:

    • Travel to the Howling Sands Biome by opening your map and locating a desert region, like in the image shown above.
    • While exploring the surface, hunt for Scorpions, Armadillos, and Tortoises to get 1-2 Sturdy Chitin per kill. The drop rate can also be zero.
    • For faster farming, explore caves and underground tunnels in desert zones. Look for grey or brown spotted blocks, which indicate a Scarak nest.
    • Scarak mobs drop more Sturdy Chitin per kill, and nests often contain multiple enemies grouped together. Inside these nests, you’ll encounter Scarak Fighters & Defenders, along with Seekers, Locusts, and Broodmothers.
    • You can break blue egg sacks found near Broodmothers to spawn Scarak Louse. These enemies have a chance to drop additional Sturdy Chitin, helping you reach the required amounts faster.

By performing these steps in the Howling Sands region, you’ll successfully get Sturdy Chitin for your upgrades.
