Legendary Fishing is available in Fields of Mistria 1.0, but you can’t just toss a Fishing Trap and call it a day. You need to painstakingly find the correct location, use the right rod, and also fish under certain environmental conditions to find them.
How to Unlock Fishing in Fields of Mistria
Like most fishing games, you need to get yourself a fishing rod first and unlock the Fishing skill. During my first run, I thought getting the fishing rod was tied to some quest. But instead, I had to reach a certain level and also purchase something to unlock the Fishing ability.
To do that, reach level 30, then visit Caldarus’ Statue. Over here, you need to purchase the Legendary Essence, which costs 80 Essence. After meeting the requirements, you will receive a notification that you can now unlock fishing. But you are still not done yet, as you need to get a Fishing Rod and Bait.
How to Get Fishing Rod
There are 5 different types of Fishing Rods to get, and you can find them in the Crafting menu. Certain rods will require special ingredients to help you catch Legendary Fish. At most, you will require a Silver Fishing Rod or higher to increase your chances of getting Legendary Fish.

How to Get Bait
You can get different bait types by checking out the Terrarium at your base. For that, you need to place the Terrarium and fill it with bugs. You can unlock the Terrarium as part of the main story quest. Keep checking this structure to find different Bait types. But not all Bait can be used alongside a Fishing Rod, as some baits can only be used with the Fishing Trap. For all Baits that can be used with the Fishing Rod, you can use the following:
- Massive Minnow
- Copper Rockfish
- Iron Fish
- Silver Squid
- Golden Eel
The higher the rarity of the bait, the easier to capture legendary fish. So keep a lookout for Silver Squids and Golden Eels and use them whenever you can.
Best Fishing Skills
Just obtaining the Fishing Rod and Bait isn’t enough, as you will also need skills to make it easier to capture legendary fish. Visit Caldarus’ Statue to check out all the available skills. Here are some skills that I found helped me with my legendary fishing.

All Legendary Fish and How to Get
Now that you are ready, you can quickly go ahead and catch Legendary Fishes. But first, you need to meet certain conditions for them to spawn. There are 4 different types of Legendary Fishes, and each of them has a set of requirements, as well as particular rivers or lakes where they spawn.
While investigating these water bodies for the fish, keep an eye out for the outline or shadow the fish makes. Certain shadows are only cast by Legendary Fishes, which will indicate if there is a Legendary Fish in that particular pond or not.

What do I do after catching the Legendary Fish?
Legendary Fishes aren’t similar to regular fishes, so you can’t sell them or keep them. The only thing you can do is donate the legendary fish to the Museum.
What happens after turning in the Legendary Fishes to the Museum?
Turning in different Legendary Fishes to the Museum will help you complete Fish Wing sets. The more sets you complete by turning in more fish, the better your rewards. You can claim new furniture recipes and treasure boxes for your work.
Can I capture Legendary Fishes in the Fish Trap?
No, Legendary Fishes can only be caught using the Fishing Rod.
