    By Jordan BlakeMarch 13, 2026Updated:July 21, 20262 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Paraceptual Filter is a way to see events that happened in the past using the Camera Obscura.
    • You will need the Paraceptual Filter Memo to start using this feature.
    • This feature can be unlocked in Chapter Two: The Twin Maidens

In Fatal Frame 2 Remake, your trusted tool is the Camera Obscura, which you find in Chapter One: The Lost Village. However, as the game progresses, you unlock more features that get added to the Camera Obscura. One such feature is the Paraceptual Filter, and this guide will tell you how to unlock it.

    Paraceptual Filter Location

Before unlocking this feature, you must gain the Camera Obscura by unlocking the Myoga Motif Room in the Osaka House. Once you have done that, follow the steps given below:

    • While playing Chapter Two: The Twin Maidens, head towards the exit from your save point in the Osaka House Kimono Room, as marked in the image above. Don’t forget to look around for collectibles in the area.
    • As soon as you open the exit door, there will be a ghostly apparition of a man standing right in front of the exit.
    • Quickly raise your Camera Obscura towards the man and shoot a picture as soon as he looks at you.

    • You’ll get a picture with the title ‘Man Peering Into Camera Obscura’. The ghostly apparition will disappear shortly after you take the picture.
    • However, by following these steps, a Paraceptual Filter Memo will drop on the ground, which you can read to better understand its uses.

After this short quest, you will be successfully able to use Paraceptual Filter.

    FAQs

What is the use of the Paraceptual Filter?

By switching the Camera Obscura to the Paraceptual Filter mode and photographing the residual energy of the ghosts, you can unlock shadows that recreate the past events, called Vanishing Traces.

Is the Paraceptual Filter required to progress in the story?

Yes. Certain memories, clues, or environmental events can only be revealed by using the Paraceptual Filter, making it important for uncovering story details and solving minor exploration puzzles.

What are Vanishing Traces in Fatal Frame 2 Remake?

Vanishing Traces are ghostly recreations of past events that appear when you photograph residual spiritual energy using the Paraceptual Filter. These traces often reveal story clues or guide you toward hidden interactions.
