Key Points
- Bandages are one of the earliest healing methods in Project Zomboid.
- Crafting bandages requires cloth that you can rip up and use.
- You can’t keep bandages on your character for long, so you need a fresh cloth for each bandage.
Project Zombiod is quite unforgiving when it comes to surviving the zombie outbreak. There will be times when you get hurt along the way, and you need to heal yourself properly before continuing on. Early in the game, you can craft bandages to use to heal yourself quickly.

How to Get and Use Cloth

Clothes are the main requirement to get bandages, and there are several ways to get cloth. While exploring the houses, look around for cloth on furniture and other areas. The quickest way I found to get cloth is to get it from dead bodies. You won’t be at a loss for finding bodies in the Overworld, so check the corpse and collect any cloth like shirts, socks, and trousers on them.
After you raid a corpse for clothing, you can then rip it up before adding it to your inventory. Right-click on the cloth, such as socks, and you will get a Rip Clothing option. This will then be added to your inventory. Before you can use it as a bandage, you need to sanitize it first. Find some alcohol around during exploration, then select the rag from your inventory. You will get the option to use the alcohol on the rag to keep it clean.
How to Get and Use Bandages

Once the sanitization process is complete, you will find the Rag converted from a Household item into First Aid. You can then add it to your character to heal them and stop any bleeding that occurs. To use a bandage, right-click on the sanitized rag from your inventory and select the Apply Bandage option. You will then be taken to the character screen, where you can apply the bandage to a specific body part.
Another way to add a bandage to your character is to select the Heart icon on the top-left hotbar and select the body part to add the bandage by right-clicking it and selecting the Apply Bandage option. Bandages do get dirty after a while, so you need to select the body part that has the bandage by right-clicking it and remove it. You can then wash the bandage in any clean water body, disinfect it, and reuse it again.
FAQs
Can I find bandages instead of cloth?
Yes, there is a chance to find actual bandages instead of cloth during exploration, but they are quite rare to come by. Your best chance at healing wounds is to get cloth and turn it into bandages instead.
Why should I sanitize ripped cloth before using it as bandages?
Unsanitized cloth will give you a secondary headache to think about, and that is getting an infection. While a sanitized and unsanitized cloth do have the same rate of getting dirty, a sanitized cloth will prevent infections and also offer faster healing.
What else can I use to sterilize cloth?
Boiling water is also another quicker way to sanitize cloth if you can’t find any alcohol. You can use a cooking pot, fill it with water, and bring it to a boil over an open flame or stove before adding the rag.
