Key Points
- Unlocking the sprinkler system helps automate the watering process for your farmland.
- You can unlock the sprinklers from the Tradebot after handing over some watermelons.
- You will also require the Energy Workbench to craft the sprinklers.
Later on, in Solarpunk, you can start automating several basic functions around your base. Once you have the sprinkler system set up, you won’t have to worry much about watering your crops all the time.

How to Unlock Sprinklers

Sprinklers are a great way to automate your farmland and continue to water your fields. But first, we need to unlock the sprinkler blueprint by visiting the Tradebot. If you own 4x Watermelons, you can trade them in for the Sprinkler Set. In case you haven’t located any watermelons yet, I found some on the western island near my starting base island. But you might also find some in the other nearby islands, too.
Once you have gathered some watermelon, there is a chance to get watermelon seeds. Plant these seeds in your farmland to grow watermelons. Collect 4 of them and return to the Tradebot to turn them in. With the Sprinkler Set in hand, you will also get the following items with it:
- 1x Sprinkler
- 1x Generator
- 1x Network Display
- 6x Cable Connector
How to Get the Energy Workbench
Sprinklers require a special workbench called the Energy Workbench. You can unlock this very early on after doing your initial trade with the Tradebot. Visit the workbench in front of the Tradebot and use up 1x Blueprint to unlock the Energy Workbench. You can purchase Blueprints from the Tradebot by trading items.
Then, visit the regular workbench at your base to craft the Energy Workbench. It will require the following materials.
- 5x Iron
- 6x Copper
- 4x Wood
- 2x Glass
Iron and Copper nodes can be found within the surrounding islands to mine Iron and Copper ore. Take the ores to the Furnace and use some wood to fuel it up. Add the Ores to get Iron and Copper bars. As for glass, look around your base to find yellow stones and use the pickaxe to break them down. This will give you sand, which you can add to the Furnace to get Glass.
How to Get and Use Sprinklers

After putting down the Energy Workbench, you can craft items that require energy to function. Select the Sprinkler option from the workbench menu and use 5x Iron and 5x Copper to craft it. You will also need the Energy Generator and the Cables alongside it, which also require varying amounts of Iron and Copper.
Once you have everything built, you can start setting up the sprinkler. Find an empty plot of land and put the sprinkler down. Use your hoe to add soil plots around it. Place a generator nearby and attach the sprinkler to the generator using the cable.
Add your fuel type to the generator. The more complex fuel type you use, the more time it takes to extinguish the generator’s power. This helps keep the sprinklers running for longer. And with that, you get to automatically water your crops while you are away.

FAQs
Is adding sprinklers the only way to water plants automatically?
So far, placing the sprinkler system helps automate the watering process for your crops.
How do I put down a greenhouse and sprinkler?
Start off by placing floors on the ground while leaving a large gap in the flooring to place your farm soil. Then, add walls and glass roofs to turn it into a greenhouse. Place a sprinkler in the middle of your soil to water the plants.
Can I place multiple sprinklers?
Yes, as long as you have enough materials to craft them, you can add several sprinklers to your farm plots.
