Key Points
- To help you craft potions, you will require the cauldron.
- You can craft the cauldron after unlocking the Blacksmith station.
- As for crafting potions, some potions will require basic health potions, while others will require empty pots as the core components to craft them.
In Romestead, you need to be on top of your game if you are planning on keeping yourself and your citizens alive. You do get several consumables and healing potions while scavening, but these won’t suffice once you get to the harder parts of the game. With the cauldron, you can craft better and more intricate potions for survival.

How to Get a Cauldron

Potionmaking will help you out greatly by giving you stat boosts once consumed. Early on, you will get various ingredients to make potions by finding them in the overworld. But you will require the right tool to craft potions. That’s where the cauldron comes in, and you need to unlock and upgrade the Blacksmith to uncover the cauldron blueprint.
The cauldron is one of the very early game resources that you will unlock once the Blacksmith reaches level 1. Then, you will need 4x copper ingots to create 1x cauldron. If you haven’t created copper bars or ingots yet, you will find copper nodes all around the starting Plains biome.
Use the pickaxe to farm copper ores, then drop them into the smelter beside the Blacksmith station. Craft the cauldron after getting the copper ingots.
How to Make Potions
Now that you have the cauldron placed at your base, your next task is to get a lot of empty pots and some basic health potions. While the cauldron does have recipes for health potions, it cannot create the basic version of them. Rather, if you check the list of craftable items, you will find that the majority of the health potions will require the basic version to craft advanced versions of the potion.
Some of the high-end health potions will also require Ash, which you will get once you advance through the story until you get to the Volcano biome. Now, while health potions won’t require empty pots, other potions like the poison potion or the aloe salve will require empty pots and other required ingredients.
Personally, I found the cauldron to be of great use much later in the game, when I required better potions to help clear out enemy camps and bosses. Some of the potions, like the poison potion and aloe salve, are good for early gameplay, but I had no use for them later on once I learnt to cook better dishes or found other ways to gain elemental resistances and heal.
