Some of the quests in Neverness to Everness offer no clue as to what should be done next. This can be a bit frustrating if you are trying to speedrun the game. The Miles Apart quest in particular is quite confusing for a lot of reasons, as you need to learn how to switch between the past and present to find items to help you with the quest.

Look Inside the House
This quest objective starts after getting the memory switch from Tungsten after going through the anomaly portal at the Gold Apple Collection Hall. After that, you will be transported inside a memory, where you need to use the switch to flip between two versions of the memory and complete several quest objectives.
You will soon meet Patty, an architect, and help her reminisce about her past. After giving her some yellow roses, she will grant you access to the inside of the house. I took this time to practice flipping between the house’s past and present versions to complete the next quest objective.
All Item Locations
There are 4 items in particular that you need to find between both versions, so keep the memory switch in hand while traveling between times.
- Past – Get the paint can from the second floor’s right side room, way in the back of the corridor.
- Present – Go downstairs and exit out the main door to find Patty in the courtyard. Hand over the paint can to her. Item Obtained: Patty’s Design Draft.
- Past – Head back upstairs and into the bathroom to find a key hidden under a pile of clothes.
- Present – Enter the room where you picked up the paint can earlier and use the key on the glass cabinet beside the armchair. Item obtained: The Fox and the Swing (New).
- Past – Go downstairs and enter the kitchen. Interact with the sticky notes on the fridge to get the Cake Recipe note. Then, head upstairs and enter the bedroom. This room is located on the far-left side of the corridor. Inside the bedroom, pick up the Damaged Red Teddy near the window.
- Present – Go back to the living room and interact with the Household Toolbox beside the record player next to the TV. Place the Damaged Teddy in it to get the Mended Teddy.
Submit the Correct Items to Advance the Memory
Visit the past and speak to the girl on the couch downstairs. You will promptly be teleported outside. Enter the house again and head upstairs. You will spot a glowing blue aura appear on the table beside the bathroom. Interact with it to get A Letter. After reading it, turn around and walk down the upstairs corridor. The corridor will get distorted and elongated.
At the end of the corridor, interact with the large door and step into the middle of the arena. Now, you need to listen to Patty’s past memories and hand over the correct item. After submitting one item, you need to use the mirror portals within the room to exit and reenter another memory and hand over the other correct items. Repeat the above steps 4 times in total to give Patty all the right items.
What helped me figure out which room required what item was to pay attention to the room’s decorations. For example, the teddy room required the Mended Teddy, while the birthday cake room required the cake recipe note. For a more detailed explanation on which item goes where, just follow the instructions below.

After submitting all the right items, defeat the enemies that appear in the arena. Then, follow the quest markers to speak to the younger and older versions of Patty, which will complete the quest.

FAQs
I can’t find the damaged teddy anywhere. What do I do?
This seems to be a recurring bug where the teddy won’t appear in the past. Restart the game and your system, and try again to find the teddy bear.
I can’t repair my teddy. What do I do?
This is another common bug that doesn’t have a proper fix yet. Do make sure you are interacting with the toolkit in the present and placing the right teddy in it. If that doesn’t work, then restarting the game is the only way to get it to work again.
How do I get back into the house after getting kicked out?
Press the action/interact button when near the front door to re-enter the house.
