Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Divorce Guide

By Sagnik AdhikaryApril 20, 20266 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Miis can divorce each other when their Relationship Level changes to “Not getting along”.
    • This happens if they do not communicate regularly or entertain romantic advances from other Miis.
    • In the event of divorce, they can either reconcile or end their relationship for good.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream offers not only an exceptional social simulation experience but also life lessons, especially regarding marriage and divorce. As in real life, your Miis can opt for divorce if the spark between them fades and they no longer feel for each other.

However, if you play your cards right, you can either get them to reconcile or go ahead with the divorce. If you want to find out how divorce works in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, here’s what you need to know.

How to Get Miis to Divorce

Getting Miis to divorce each other hardly happens naturally, and it depends on the part you play and their Relationship Level. In Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, I discovered that there are many ways for couples to divorce, and I had to force my hand in all of them. For example, when a couple is arguing, their Relationship Level will deteriorate if you don’t intervene.

When you see the argument icon above the Miis’ heads, you can ignore it to sacrifice their Relationship Level until they want a divorce. Another way is to entertain other Miis when they’re in a relationship. The more a Mii interacts with another Mii and entertains their amorous approaches, the more they will drift apart from their spouse.

Both these outcomes will strain their relationship, changing their Relationship Status to “Not getting along” until they eventually opt for a divorce. For a couple to lead a healthy marriage in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, they need to communicate regularly and participate in activities together; otherwise, their hearts will grow cold, and they’ll distance themselves from each other.

However, that’s not the focus of this guide. Personality compatibility also plays a huge part in a couple’s Relationship Level, which means the more compatible they are, the more likely they’ll stay married, and may even reconcile during the divorce.

What this means is that if their personality compatibility is low, they don’t communicate regularly, and they often get into arguments, they’ll eventually bring up divorce as a way out.

Divorce Options in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

On the event of a Mii bringing up divorce in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, all hope isn’t lost, unless you’re actively rooting for their separation. When a Mii states that they want to divorce their spouse, you can either enforce it or bid against it. This can lead to three different outcomes, two of which will end in heartbreak. Here’s what the options and the results are:

    I. That’s For the Best

    Selecting "That's for the best".

This option finalizes their divorce, and there’s no going back. This triggers a cutscene, in which both Miis are seated in a dark room with a gloomy atmosphere and confirm the divorce. Once the cutscene ends, the Miis break down, increasing their Sadness Level, and they become Ex-Spouses, changing their Relationship Level to either “No hard feelings” or “Aquaintances” in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

II. Think About it Some More (Failure)

First outcome for option "Think about it some more."

This option has two outcomes: failure and success. This triggers the reconciliation event, which can either go great or horribly wrong, so I’ll focus on the latter first. Once the divorce cutscene concludes, you’ll get flashbacks of your Miis growing apart, distancing themselves and losing their feelings for each other during the marriage. Hence, their Relationship Level will change to “No hard feelings”.

If you don’t focus on them during their marriage, the reconciliation event will fail, no matter how hard you try to intervene. Unless you’re actively trying to break them up, I’d recommend taking care of their marriage as often as you can, so that even if they opt for divorce, the reconciliation event can be a success, which I’ll focus on next in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

III. Think About it Some More (Success)

Second outcome for option "Think about it some more."

The next outcome for this Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream option is a successful reconciliation event. This happens when the Miis get into an argument, which ends with their Relationship Status changed to “Not getting along”. If you were taking care of their marriage before the argument, then don’t worry, as there’s an incredibly high chance that they will work things out.

So, drop in on the Mii who wants a divorce and pick this option. This triggers a cutscene during which they both work things out, and their Relationship Level changes from “Not getting along” to “In love”, meaning the reconciliation event was a complete success. The chances of this happening increase if their personalities are compatible in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

    FAQs

How do I know if my Miis want a divorce?

When your couple’s Relationship Level changes to “Not getting along”, check up on either of them to see if they want a divorce or not.

What happens after Miis divorce each other?

In the event of divorce, the Relationship Level between the Miis changes to “Not getting along” or “Aquaintance”, and the home the couple built together during their marriage will cease to exist. Both Miis will go their separate ways, far away from each other.

Can Miis rekindle their relationship during a divorce?

Yes, if their Relationship Level is “Not getting along” and their Status is “Ex-Spouses”, there’s a chance for a successful reconciliation event if their personalities are compatible and if they loved each other before the divorce.

What happens if the Relationship Status changes to “Aquaintance”?

If the Relationship Status between the couple changes to “Strangers” or “Acquaintance” rather than “Ex-Spouses”, it significantly reduces their chances of reconciling.

Can Miis make up after a fight?

Yes, they can easily get along after a fight. All you have to do is drag and drop them near each other to initiate a conversation. Watch them closely and wait until they sort out their differences.
