In the Spotter: Dig or Die, you are tasked with keeping the horde of mutants away from your base. While progressing through the game and unlocking newer underground areas, you might have stumbled across a unique cage containing a gun and an ammo box. To unlock this cage, you need to find the right person to hand over the cage key, but the hunt to find this person is not easy.

How to Get a Rifle
Before starting the underground mission to find the Rifle, I found it easier to upgrade my shovel first. This took me around two hours to get the necessary shovel upgrades and materials until I could unlock the Drill upgrade. With this, I could dig up the dirt below more efficiently. Around 10 meters below the starting dig location, I encountered a strange vine. Using the Drill, I continued to dig around the vine until I reached an area surrounded by metal casing.
Dropping down this metallic tunnel will reveal a secret location. Speak to the cop lounging around on the couch, and he will hand over a special key. Continue to search this secret hideout to find unique items like cash, car parts, artifacts, and more. After that, make your way up to around 7 meters. If you are starting back from the starting point, it would be easier to drop directly down to 7 meters. Dig around to find a Gun Cage and use the key here to get a rifle and the related ammo.
How to Use the Rifle
After picking up the gun, you can use it immediately. This is a great way to deal with enemies at close range, but with the limited amount of ammo, it is best to use it during emergencies. You can take the rifle back to your base and press G to place it on the ground. That way, you can come back to it later on.
If you are wondering how to get more ammo, you might find it randomly during underground exploration. But the chances of obtaining them are extremely rare. Also, do note that you cannot dig and hold the rifle at the same time, so it’s best to leave it at your base before continuing downwards.

The rifle is a good weapon for the early game, but against tougher enemies, you are better off with something hardier than the rifle.
I can’t find my rifle after dropping it to the ground. What do I do?
Usually, the rifle will respawn near the turret seat, so check that area to get your rifle.
The gun cage doesn’t unlock for me. What do I do?
Make sure you have picked up the key from the cop first, then interact with the gun cage to automatically unlock it. Sometimes, the key could still be floating near the cop.
