How to Unlock the Dark Abyss Flare

The Dark Abyss Flare is summoned when you interact with the table at Farewell Island. If you haven’t unlocked the table yet, complete the secret quest called Twinkle Twinkle Little…?. I missed this quest entirely and couldn’t figure out where I should be going. Luckily, while exploring the shoreline of Tide’s Rest at Fairy King’s Forest, I could kickstart this quest.
All you have to do is help the giant cross the sea, which also unlocks the new Farewell Island. After completing the quest, you get to find and interact with the table to summon new pets, which includes the Dark Abyss Flare. But before getting into that, you need to craft Wisp Lanterns first.
How to Get Wisp Lantern and Summon the Dark Abyss Flare

Head over to your crafting bench to craft the Wisp Lantern using 10x Common Chromatic Powder, 10x Fine Chromatic Powder, 10x Rare Chromatic Powder, and 1x Malachite. You will get most of these items from quest rewards or by salvaging bugs in the overworld. Once you are ready, change the time to past midnight, then interact with the table. This will summon the Dark Abyss Flare, and you need to beat it to capture it.
How to Beat the Dark Abyss Flare

The Dark Abyss Flare has a few choice attacks that it will use on you.
- Body Slam – The Dark Abyss Flare will fly up and slam down, creating an AoE effect around you.
- Charge Attack – The beast will charge up and dash to your vicinity, dealing damage as it hits you.
- Projectile Beam – The Dark Abyss Flare will float up and release three orbs. These orbs will shoot out beams that will hit you if you get too close.
- Homing Orbs – The creature will also shoot out several orbs in sets of three, and they will target your location and explode upon contact.
Now, what’s tricky about this fight is that the Dark Abyss Flare can heal itself, so you need to keep dealing damage to lower its health. What makes this fight more difficult is that it’s quite hard to focus on landing hits while it is in the air. I liked to wait until the creature was on the ground and dealt the heaviest attack. Using Merlin helped greatly, but any hero that you are comfortable with can be used here.
The key here is not to kill the Dark Abyss Flare, so you need to plan your attacks carefully. Wait until its health has reached ⅓, then wait for the slam attack to get the beast grounded. Place the Radiant Potion of Charm quickly to stun it and capture it.
If it doesn’t work the first time, wait for it to slam down a second time and time the potion placement quickly. I could capture it after trying a second time, and I could become the proud owner of the Dark Abyss Flare.
