Key Points
- Faith is one of the progressive traits that will help you unlock new skills in the Tech Tree.
- But to gather Faith, you need to build a Church and hold sermons.
- The church unlocks after bringing in a nun as part of the main story quest.
Most of the elements in Graveyard Keeper 2 are similar to its predecessor. You might find out that you require Faith to unlock some of the newer features in the Tech Tree. Unlocking faith involves getting a nun to your land and helping her rebuild the old locked-up church near your base.

How to Unlock the Church

Unlocking the church comes automatically while going through the main story quest. While exploring the village, you will have a chance to talk to the tavern keeper and get a hint to speak to the merchant about the food scarcity in town. The merchant will then ask you to retrieve his fishing rod from the twins, which will set you off on a quest here.
Right where the twins are, you can speak to Jack building the boat. He will require some supplies to finish the construction, so hand over the Bronze Details and Planks that he needs. This will complete Jack’s quest too, and he will soon set sail with the twins. There isn’t much else to do here, so wait a few in-game days until the twins visit your home.
Meeting the Nun
The twins will inform you that they have returned from the port and brought a nun along with them, but Jack ended up staying behind. You will also get a letter from Jack complaining about the poor quality of materials you handed for the boat’s construction, making it a risky affair to return on it. He has ended up trading his place with the Nun, who will help boost your morale.
The nun will be waiting for you at the tavern, so make your way over there to find her. Look at the corner of the tavern to find a spooky-looking nun. Speak to her, and she will ask whether you have restored the old temple. She can obviously see through your lies, and she will demand to speed up your progress.
Rebuilding the Temple

The church doors will now be unlocked, and you can find the church in the Inquisition Base, east of the Morgue. Once you set foot here, your first task is to clear out all the rubble and break the old pots. After clearing the area, you can add some benches and improve the church for 8 planks and 6 rocks initially.
More upgrades will require more materials. You can also unlock more decor items from the Tech Tree, under Theology. The more items and upgrades you add, the higher your Church score will be, which allows more people to attend your sermons.
Starting Sermons and Gaining Faith

Then, talk to the nun, who will get spooked by Larry passing by and will consider it a bad omen. She will try to entrust the church to you, but before she leaves, she will guide you through the process of holding sermons. You first need to craft a Basic Prayer at the Writing Desk, then use it on the Altar.
You also need to spend the required amount of Gratitude points, which you can get from completing quests, burying bodies, and selling the Burial Certificates. You need maximum Gratitude to perform sermons. Sermons can be done by stepping up to the altar and picking a prayer from your inventory.

While performing a Basic Prayer, you will find patrons flocking to your church. Once the sermon is completed, you can collect Faith from them. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you can only hold sermons at certain times of the week, especially on Wrath day, which is symbolised as a dark red male symbol. This appears once every week, so if you miss it for that week, you need to wait for the next week to start a sermon.
