Diablo 4 Season 12 – How to Get & Use Slaughterhouse Keys

There are a few ways to farm rare items in Diablo 4 Season of Slaughter, and unlocking the Slaughterhouse is one of those ways. This unique dungeon is a great way to farm Bloodied Items, which is something to keep an eye out for while hunting down enemies. But first, you need to collect the Slaughterhouse Key, which is a rare drop in itself.​

​How to Get Slaughterhouse Keys​

Participating in Helltide Events

Slaughterhouse Keys are random drops from enemy mobs. For me, the best way to beat a lot of enemies and increase the drop rate turned out to be participating in Helltide events. This spawns several hordes of enemies, which is a great way to test out your strongest abilities.

I’ve also found that AoE skills quickly diminish the hoard, which enables a faster way to search for Slaughterhouse Key loot.​ To increase your chances, drop a Smoldering Ashes within the Urn of Slaughter to get a better shot of obtaining the Slaughterhouse Key.

Summoning Blood Maiden

Besides this, I also found that summoning the Blood Maiden can get you Slaughterhouse Keys. It is a rare drop, so only use this tactic if you didn’t get any drops from normal mobs. If this is your first time summoning a Blood Maiden, check your map for a horned head icon. Make your way over there and offer a Baneful Heart on each Accursed Ritual Altar in the area to start the ritual.

Shrine of Slaughter

As a last resort, if none of the above tactics work, I recommend that you try the Shrine of Slaughter dungeon. This is a variant of the Slaughterhouse dungeon. Within the Shrine of Slaughter, you become the Butcher and hunt down mobs before the timer ends.

Reputation Board Caches

Another path you could take to farm Slaughterhouse keys is to clear Reputation Board objectives. The Brutality Reputation Board in Gea Kul is a great pick. This drops Bloodied Caches, which, I found, helped drop a handful of Slaughterhouse Keys. Keep repeating the activities here to increase your chances.

How to Use Slaughterhouse Keys​

Once you have a Slaughterhouse Key, check it out in your inventory and select it. This will give you a marker on your map. Head over there to enter the Slaughterhouse dungeon and fight waves of enemies. You get to clear the dungeon as the Butcher, so this is one of the ways to unlock the Butcher’s toolkit and test out all skills and abilities. ​

How to Clear the Slaughterhouse Dungeon

The objective while inside the Slaughterhouse is fairly simple. You take the form of the Butcher, but instead of random mobs, you take control over the Sanctuary’s towns. Run amok and get kills by defeating villagers and Wanderers alike. Once you get the required number of kills, you will face the bigger Wanderer bosses. Defeat them to clear the dungeon and get your rewards. 

As a Butcher, you gain control of the following skillset of this character:

• Hell Charge – Hold down this button to forward dash continuously. 
• Carve – Heavy damage primary attack.
• Coiling – Releases several spinning cleavers that surround the butcher.
• Hail of Hooks – Uses a strong gravitational pull to bring enemies towards you.
• Molten Slam – Heavy damage secondary attack that requires Blood Lust to activate.
• Furnace Blast – An explosive detonation that creates AoE damage.
