After unlocking character bonds, you get to pick up side quests in the form of requests. Once you get the chance to speak to Valentin, he will require some Tomes for his research. There are 4 tomes to find, and each tome is tied to particular boss fights.

Tome #1 – Book of Lost Time I Location
In the southern section of MagMell is Shoreline Cavern. Enter it and go ahead to enter the Temporal Rift. On the other side, get past the large double doors to enter the Slaughter Engine Goliath’s boss arena. Defeat the boss for the first tome.
Rewards: Restorative Cure, Somatic Zeal.
Tome #2 – Book of Lost Time II Location
Near the Cliffside Ruins fast travel point in Sunken City, travel northeast to find the Cultist Altar. If you are having trouble accessing this area, follow the steps below.
- Take the elevator inside the building to go up, then continue onwards to the courtyard.
- Climb up the rubble on your left and continue up the ladder.
- Explore the hallways to find a stone slab taking you up to the upper floor.
- Continue to explore the upper hallway to find a short flight of stairs leading you to another stone slab.
- Get across the stone slab to be taken even higher, then hit the Map Jammer at the end of the path.
- This will reveal the entrance of the Cultist Altar. Take the ladder beside the Map Jammer to exit the building.
- Follow the path north to northeast to find the entrance, then go through it and enter the Temporal Rift.
- Go through the double doors and defeat the Biosis Clod to get the second tome.
Rewards: Scorched Earth.
Tome #3 – Book of Lost Time III Location
For this one, you need to head over to the Corroded Scar’s Mine Site Northern Cave fast travel point. Enter it and go through the rift to find the Queen of the Rift. Defeat her for the third tome.
Rewards: Ichor Rejuvenative.
Tome #4 – Book of Lost Time IV Location
The last tome is located deep within the Cult’s Hidden Cave in Undead Forest. This time, after passing through the Temporal Rift, you need to survive 3 waves of enemies. Defeat them all and pick up the final tome in the end.
Rewards: Diamond Dust.

Where do I find Valentin to start the quest?
You get to find Valentin during the Free Exploration Era in 2187/2197. This unlocks after defeating Josée the Blind. Head over to MagMell and speak to him to start the quest. You should return here once you have collected each Tome to get the next quest objective, and to also end the quest.
How do I exit the boss arena?
After defeating the boss and picking up the tome, go further into the cave to find a monument ahead. Touch it to exit the cave.
How many tomes do I need to collect for the quest?
You need to collect 4 tomes to complete the quest.
