Key Points
- Plant different-colored flowers together to crossbreed them.
- Do not pick flowers from the plant before they successfully crossbreed.
- Get your plants watered by three friends to increase the chances of flower crossbreeding in Heartopia.
Level 3 in Heartopia unlocks several new things, along with new questlines. I was initially happy about unlocking new flower seeds, but the crossbreeding quest nearly made me lose my mind! After a lot of trial and error, I figured out the best way to increase your chances of successfully crossbreeding flowers in Heartopia.
How to Crossbreed Flowers in Heartopia

Once you reach level 3, Blanc will task you with flower crossbreeding. Completing this quest is extremely important. Doing so will let you fulfill your Gardening Hobby objectives before moving on to unlocking and upgrading other hobbies. You will get some flower seeds from them, and your task will be to produce unique, colored flowers. Here’s how to do exactly that:
- Pick an empty spot on the ground.
- Plant different-colored seeds of the same flower next to each other. For example, plant a red daisy and a white daisy next to each other.
- Water them every day until they mature.
- The plants will sparkle when watered.
- Do not pick flowers until you get a new flower bed that indicates successful crossbreeding.
- If you still don’t have a unique crossbred color, I suggest you wait a few more days, without picking flowers.
- Keep watering the plants together, even fully grown ones, until you get crossbreeding.
Things to Remember
- Be Patient: Getting flowers to cross-pollinate can be frustrating. Some players have reported that they had to wait two to four days to get unique crossbred flowers. I recommend that you dedicate a separate flowerbed to your crossbreeding endeavours.
- Do Not Prematurally Pick Flowers: This is where most players go wrong. I get it: it’s hard to keep waiting for these flowers to crossbreed. But trust me, the worst thing you can do is pluck them prematurely. As I suggested above, dedicate a separate flowerbed for crossbreeding and just… never pick these flowers until they crossbreed!
- Water Plants Together: You must water these plants together. The same goes with the Fertilizer. Watering two plants you want to crossbreed together (in the same instance) is the only way to get these plants to cross-pollinate. Even when the plants have fully grown, keep watering them together.
- Get Your Friends to Water Your Plants: I also found an interesting trick that has worked for several people who were struggling to crossbreed flowers in Heartopia: Get three more players (excluding you) to water these plants to have a better chance of crossbreeding. Doing so will give you a better chance of growing crossbred flowers.
FAQs
Why can’t I access the flower crossbreeding quest?
You must be level 3 or higher to access this quest. The questgiver is an NPC named Blanc. If you still have problems, try watering another player’s fully grown flower plants. I was getting stuck, repeatedly watering my flowers, only to get plain old flowers. The crossbreeding quest only triggered for me when I watered my friends’ Daisies.
How can I maximize the chances of successfully crossbreeding flowers in Heartopia?
I suggest that you find three friends (other players) who can come in and water your plants for you. Many players have reported that doing so increased their chances of obtaining some interesting, unique-colored flowers.
Is there a way to get guaranteed flower crossbreeding in Heartopia?
Sadly, no. Crossbreeding is a matter of chance. It can’t be guaranteed. However, the method I mentioned above (getting your friends to water your plants) has the highest success rate of all methods. Trust me, it will happen eventually. It took me three full days to get flowers to crossbreed in Beta.
Do I still have to water plants when it snows?
I recommend watering your plants even when it snows. You don’t have to water them when it rains. Also, if you are just starting on your crossbreeding quest, I recommend that you wait for the snow to go away and plant the flowers on green ground on your home plot.
