How to Unlock Gear 4 – Prerequisites
Before you begin the checklist of obtaining Gear 4 on Luffy, you need to complete some prerequisites first. First off, you need to visit the Restaurant Island and reroll until you get the Gomu Gomu fruit. Eat and equip the Gomu Gomu fruit to get the Gum Gum ability.
After that, you need to farm 15x Crimson Sea Scales by defeating several Sea Kings to spawn either the Crimson Sea King or Scorched Sea King. Sea Kings spawn while standing on the sea, and their spawn rate depends on your bounty level. A high bounty level has a better chance of spawning Sea Kings.
The more Sea Kings you defeat, the better your chances will be of spawning the Crimson Sea King or Scorched Sea King. Defeat a few of them to collect Crimson Sea Scales. As the final step, you need to have the Permanent Haki and Max Observation Haki maxed out and ready, as well as having 300,000 Bounty.
Once you are all prepared, your next step is to complete Rayleigh’s questline and obtain Gear 4.
Completing the Wano Gomu Trail Quest
Head over to Water 7 Island to find Rayleigh. Once you speak to the NPC, you will get a series of quest objectives to complete the Wano Gomu quest. Some of the objectives are pretty simple to follow, and below are all the objectives for the quest.
- Dodge 500 times – This can be done anywhere and anytime outside of battle.
- Strike enemies 1000 times using the Armament Haki – The easiest way I found to do this was to hit the training dummy using the Armament Haki.
- Defeat 10 Sea Kings – It doesn’t matter which variant, as long as you defeat the required number of Sea Beasts.
- Defeat the Dragon Boss using the rubber fruit – My hack was to use the shadow dagger on the Dragon Boss first to lower its health, then deal the final blow using Gum Gum.
- Deliver 5x King Essence to Rayleigh – Visit the Infinite Tower and defeat the boss inside to farm King Essence.
Defeat the Luffy Sea Event Boss using the Rubber Fruit
This quest objective is a bit tricky to complete, but you are one step closer to unlocking Gear 4 if you are successful. Before you dive right into the Luffy boss event, you need to upgrade your Gum Gum ability to get Wano Gomu. To do so, check the map to find the Luffy boss spawn. You will get a notification about the boss event and a signal in the sky when he appears.
Next, to upgrade the Gum Gum ability to Wano Gomu, you need to defeat Luffy phase 1 using only Gum Gum. Using weapons or other abilities will ruin the progress. Also, there is a 10% chance for the ability to evolve into Wano Gomu, so you need to grind a lot for this to happen.
If it doesn’t happen, leave the arena and retry. You need to get Wano Gomu before heading into the second phase. Use only Wano Gomu during phase 2 to defeat the Luffy boss and complete the objective.
Return to Rayleigh
You can’t visit Rayleigh empty-handed. You need to farm the following and bring it to the NPC.
- 200 Evo Essence
- 2,000 Sea Event Tokens
- 4,000 Gems
- 4,000,000 Beli
Handing all the items over will unlock the Bounceman ability. Press F to use it anytime. This will give you Gear 4 Luffy, which helps deal immense damage with a large AoE hitbox. If you are looking for a sturdy persona for PvP battle, then using Gear 4 will help you out.
