How to Get the Fishing Rod
Fishing isn’t possible without a fishing rod, and the only way to get it is to complete Noel’s quest called Outfish the Fisherman. You can get this rod very early in the game after exploring the main hub and beyond to find Noel. Noel is located in Moonlit Pines, the same area where Luna’s Farm is located. If you head right from your home and cross the bridge, you will find him beyond the arch.
For the quest, all you need to do is accept his challenge to catch and bring three different fish. He will hand over the Fishing Rod, and you can make your way to any water body and start fishing. It isn’t necessary to win the challenge, so you can fish at your leisure too. But winning the challenge will give you 250 Coins. Once the quest is over, you get to keep the rod for yourself.
How to Fish
Personally, I found fishing to be the easiest activity to pick up here. All you need to do is stand in front of any water body around and get the prompt to start fishing. But not all lakes and ponds are suited for fishing. To know if the location has any fish, look at the surface of the water to find fish-shaped shadows underwater.
Then, equip the rod and cast your line. The fish might scatter initially, but they will return after a while. You can reel in your line a little bit to draw the fish’s attention, and eventually, you will get a bite. Start reeling in the line after the bait float has sunk into the water, which indicates that the fish has taken the bait. Sometimes, you might pick up trash instead of fish, but you can sell them in the market for cash.
How to Upgrade Fishing Rod
Early game fish can be caught using the basic fishing rod. But this isn’t sustainable long-term, especially if you wish to catch bigger fish. Once you have Ridge’s store unlocked in town, you can visit him and hand over 3 Gold Bars and 16K Gold to upgrade your fishing rod.

FAQs
I can’t find Noel anywhere; what do I do?
Noel will only appear during the second night in the game. After completing his challenge, you can visit The Broken Lamp inn to speak to him and get your quest rewards.
What else can I use fish for?
You can sell fish at the market for some coins, or you can cook them once you have the required station and recipes for it.
Is fishing important?
