Where Winds Meet’s Hexi is home to many secrets, one of them being the Old Friends you can find at Jiuquan in Lianzhou Town. However, this is not your typical fetch or combat quest. For this one, you need to converse with the NPCs in an AI Chat Menu and please them to make an acquaintance with them. With that said, here are all the Jiuquan Old Friends locations and the answers.

Where Winds Meet – Jiuquan Old Friends Overview
| No. of Old Friends | 3 |
| Location | Jiuquan Town in Hexi: Liangzhou Town. |
| Method | To please them with your conversation in the AI Chat Menu. |
1. Zheng Da’an Location & Answers

You’ll find Zheng Da’an in the southwestern part of Jiuquan Town, to the left of the intersection, as shown in the image above in Where Winds Meet. To my surprise, this quest was pretty much a conversation in a Chat Menu with an AI bot posing as Zheng Da’an. However, the toughest part was figuring out what to write to increase my Affection Level with them.
The trick is to check out what the hint says about the NPC at the top of the AI Chat Menu and write accordingly. For Zheng Da’an, you need to prove that he’s not as wealthy as he claims to be. So, here’s what you need to write in Where Winds Meet:
- Decades-treasured egg drop soup? Impressive – but even treasures can
- Two poached eggs and four oxen? Modest indeed! But even the well-born carry coins for sesame cakes – surely you can manage that?
- Two scallion pancakes and a faded ring? A true master would simply pay for the cakes instead of listing his menu!
- Ming De University and the Flower 4? Impressive credentials! But even the refined must pay for sesame cakes – connection won’t fill empty purses!
- Connections and refinement are valuable, but the sesame cake seller still needs payment! A true young master keeps his word and pays his debts
- Servants cannot pay what you do not owe – facing a simple sesame cake bill is hardly beneath a young master’s dignity!
- Higher matters cannot replace coin in a merchant’s hand – even the most refined master must eat, and eating requires payment!
- I understand your refinement is valuable – but friendship begins with small gestures. Perhaps we could share the sesame cakes together? A simple meal between friends matters more than who pays!
Once the conversation ends, you’ll befriend Zheng Da’an, and your Affection Level with him will increase in Where Winds Meet.
2. Mao the Miser Location & Answers

From Zheng Da’s location, walk straight down the road to find Mao the Miser, as shown in the image above in Where Winds Meet. The main trick to pleasing him is to boost his ideas for the new work policies and join his extravagant caravan. So, here’s what you need to write to become his friend:
- Four days on, three days off? Now that’s revolutionary! Your caravan workers are lucky to have someone fighting for them. I’d be honored to join such a forward-thinking operation!
- Paid holidays and reasonable hours? Your caravan sounds like the future! I’m in!
- Parents leaving early with full pay? You truly care about your people! This is why I want to join your caravan!
- Dating funds? You think of everything! Your caravan treats people like family, not just workers. I’m honored to join!
- Yes, sure
- Let’s have a drink
- Cheers friend!
- Cheers to a caravan that truly values its people! I’m excited to work together. Tell me, what’s the first task for a new member?
Similar to Zheng Da’an, you’ll increase your Affection with Mao the Miser and befriend him in Where Winds Meet.
3. Xi Daozhi Location & Answers

The final Old Friend you can find in Jiuquan Town is Xi Daozhi, and he’s located opposite Zheng Da’an and Mao the Miser, as shown in the image above in Where Winds Meet. From the intersection, take the path to the right (or to your left in-game) and meet Xi Daozhi, the Painter.
For him, you need to tell him to paint the real Lu Yi, not how he wants her to be and advise him on how to paint her. So, interact with him and write the following answers:
- Your art shows how you see her – maybe just ask what she feels?
- Tell her the portrait is how you feel – not a test
- Maybe she thinks you see an ideal, not the real her
- Paint her as she is – not how you wish her to be
- Good. Now show Lu Yi – honesty matters more than perfection
- You’re welcome. Go talk to her – she’ll see the change.
- Yes – let her see you see her. Good luck!
With Xi Daozhi, you’ll now have all Old Friends in Jiuquan as your acquaintances, thus completing this quest in Where Winds Meet.
