Crimson Desert – Keyboard or Controller Guide

    By Jordan BlakeMarch 20, 2026Updated:March 23, 20264 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • There is no hide helmet toggle currently available in the game.
    • Helmet visibility is tied directly to the gear you equip.
    • The only way to remove it visually is by unequipping it, which sacrifices stats.

In a lot of modern RPGs, hiding your helmet is almost a standard feature. You get to keep your stats while still seeing your character’s face during exploration or cutscenes. So naturally, when I jumped into Crimson Desert, this was one of the first customization options I looked for, and surprisingly, it’s not there. But can you hide the helmet using other ways? Read on below to find out.

Keyboard or Controller: Which one should you choose for Crimson Desert?

The short answer is: No, you can’t hide your helmet without removing it. After spending time going through the settings, I couldn’t find any sort of toggle for helmet visibility. Unlike other RPGs, Crimson Desert keeps things very gear-dependent. If it’s equipped, it’s visible.

I even checked whether there was a hidden option tied to cosmetics or display settings, but there’s nothing like that implemented right now. So if you’re hoping for a hide helmet button, you won’t find one.

But if you want to unequip the helmet, follow the steps given below:

    • Open your Armour wheel using the left D-pad on a controller or by pressing the T Key on PC.
    • Once open, you can use the arrow keys on PC or LT or RT on the controller to toggle between helmets and also unequip them.
    • You can follow the same process to unequip other Armour parts as well.

Once removed, your character’s appearance updates instantly, including during cutscenes. Also, you can follow the same process to unequip other armor pieces if you want a more customized look. While you may unequip your helmet, do remember that doing so will make you vulnerable to attacks.

I tried playing without a helmet for a while just to see how it felt, and visually, it definitely improves gameplay. So while there’s no official confirmation yet from the developers, based on how common this feature is in other RPGs, there’s a good chance it could be added in a future update.

If you have one available, it’s definitely worth trying, especially for long play sessions and combat-heavy sections.
