Anecdote markers usually appear as small ‘Interact’ prompts when you successfully uncover the correct environmental cues. I have noticed that some of the anecdote prompts only appear after you have completed main story quests in the base, so I highly recommend getting the main story beats done first. After you have completed all main story objectives, you can move ahead with completing the rest of the region’s objectives. Here’s how you can complete each ‘anecdote’ encounter in Nine Mortal Ways Base:

1. Eight-Sect Banquet: This encounter is located right beside the main entrance gates. Look for large, decorated tables set for a feast. Approach the main table to trigger the ‘Interact’ prompt. This will trigger the memory of the sect’s diplomatic gatherings, and the encounter will be marked as completed. 
2. Poison of Spectral Soldiers: This encounter can be found in the base’s training grounds. Locate the rack of green-tinted weapons that looks different from the rest of the racks. Interacting with it will reveal the sect’s history of using deadly chemical warfare.
3. Lifesaving Benefactor: You can unlock this encounter in the medical wing of the base. Locate the area with drying herbs and interact with the primary medical desk to reveal the memory and complete the encounter.
4. Mei Lang’s True Purpose: This encounter is located on the upper balconies. Take the stairs near the back of the base and reach the study area. Interact with the main desk overlooking the central plaza to complete this encounter.
5. Cheater’s Stare Down: You can complete this encounter near the gambling stalls. Locate two silent NPCs staring down at each other. You can find them sitting across a table that has the game of tiles on it. Interact with them to complete this encounter.
6. The Silent Disciple: This encounter is situated in the corner of the lower dormitory. Look for a disciple sitting alone. Listen to his internal monologue to complete this encounter.
7. Sect Rules of Deception: You can complete this near the main hall’s entrance. Locate the large stone tablet inscribed with the codes of the Nine Mortal Ways. Interact with it to complete the encounter.
8. The Hidden Vault: This encounter is situated in the base’s storage cellar. I noticed that breaking a few crates makes it easier to find the interaction prompt. Break a few crates and locate the prompt hidden behind silk rolls. Interact to complete.
9. Training Sabotage: You can complete this encounter on the combat platforms. Look for a tampered training dummy that looks distinctly different from the others. Hit it 10 times to make the interact prompt appear.
10. A Thief’s Honor: This encounter can be completed in the market stalls. Interact with the small offering bowl placed near one of the back-alley entrances to the base.
11. Shadow of the Elder: You can complete this encounter in the highest pavilion of the base. You will need to do some light parkour to reach it. Traverse to the roof of the highest pavilion and find the place where the base’s leader meditates. Interact with him to complete the encounter.
12. The Disguise Room: You can find this near the starting point of the ‘A Thousand Faces’ main story quest. Equip the Sect Disciple disguise and interact with the rack of masks to reveal the sect’s obsession with masking identities and complete the encounter.

Important Note: If you can’t find the ‘Interact’ prompt at the aforementioned locations, activate your Windsense. Doing so will help you easily locate the hidden trigger prompt.

All Injustices in Nine Mortal Ways Base – Where Winds Meet

This series of mini-quests involves debunking five unique local scams. You need to expose a Fortune Teller by shaking their shell exactly six times, retract a sword from the stone by consuming ‘Special’ pills a bystander offers, beat a rigged game of cups by using your Windsense, light the candle in a foggy cave to retrieve a treasure chest, and uncover a catfisher by checking your private messages. Here’s a quick summary: 

1. Fortune Telling: Located near the entrance. Shake the shell exactly six times to uncover the scam.
2. Break Wind: Located near the central plaza. Use the special pills given by Pitiful Zhen and pull out the sword.
3. Cup Stand: Located in the market district. Use Windsense on the third round to expose the rigging.
4. Foggy Cave: Located on the northern cliffs. Retrieve a treasure chest by lighting an unlit candle in the foggy cave with a fire arrow.
5. The Maiden: Located in the lower docks. Respond to a private message to uncover a catfishing scam.

All Old Friends Encounters in Nine Mortal Ways Base – Where Winds Meet

You need to find and interact with three ‘old friends’ (Mei Zhaole, Zhang Shuazi, and Fan Qicha) to complete these encounters. I recommend that you complete all ‘Injustice’ quests before attempting the old friends encounters, as the third old friend, Fan Qicha, is directly linked to completing the last ‘Injustice’ quests, i.e., The Maiden. Here’s a quick summary:

1. Mei Zhaole: Found in the upper balconies. Interact to complete.
2. Zhang Shuazi: Located near the central markets. Interact to complete.
3. Fan Qicha: Linked directly to the Maiden injustice quest. Complete that quest and wait for a private message from Fan Qicha to know their location.

Why is my injustice quest counter stuck at 4/5?

This is a common issue faced by many players. The Maiden quest is a bit tricky to complete because it doesn’t have a physical marker on the map. You need to respond to a private message from Fawn Chicha to start this quest. Furthermore, I have noticed that you can only get the message if you have completed two other injustice quests. I recommend that you complete the remaining four injustice quests and then check your inbox for a private message.

Is it possible to complete all Anecdotes without completing the main story objectives?

No. Several major anecdotes are gated behind the main story objectives. You need to complete the Dao Lord campaign to unlock the upper balcony areas, which is crucial for completing an Anecdote encounter, as well as an old friend encounter. I highly recommend completing all main story objectives in the region before starting with anecdotes, injustices, and old friends. 

Do I need any particular combat skills to 100% Nine Mortal Ways Base?

No really. This area is designed to test your observational, puzzle-solving, and environmental awareness skills, rather than your ombat prowess. Windsense will actually be your best weapon in this region, helpful in finding hidden environmental cues and exposing scammers.
