Using spells is one of the core mechanics of Esoteric Ebb. Luckily, you will spot a wide selection of spells to help you in various activities around the town. One of the more overlooked spells that the game hands over to you is the Thaumaturgy Cantrip. This spell is highly misunderstood, since its use is shrouded in mystery.

How to Get the Thaumaturgy Cantrip

You will get the Thaumaturgy Cantrip once you reach The City Below. Over here, make your way to the Crypt to find the Skeleton. This section is part of the main story, so you can’t miss it. Once you find the Skeleton, he will initiate a duel. Luckily, this fight can be completed very early on, as the Skeleton isn’t that strong to begin with. My Strength skill was really low, but I still defeated him. After he is dead, leave and return the next day.
Once the next day rolls by, you will find The Duck standing in the middle of the Crypt. Speak to him and complete all the dialog options until he asks you to grip the string. This will require Strength DC 8 to successfully grip the string. Since my Strength was pretty low, I ended up failing this task. But this didn’t stop The Duck from handing over the Thaumaturgy Cantrip, so the end result of the string task does not matter.
How to Use the Thaumaturgy Cantrip
The Thaumaturgy Cantrip will reveal sacred locations all around the city. While inside buildings or streets, using this Cantrip will help inspect spiritually significant items and areas to reveal more information about them. To know which areas require inspection, try to move through any place a bit slower than normal. You should spot a red question mark within the nearby vicinity. Cast the cantrip to know the lore behind the religious iconography in question. Some of the best places I found to use the Thaumaturgy Cantrip are around:
- The Crypt itself and the bone room next to it.
- Inside and outside the Temple of Urth.
- The shrine next to the bed and the starting spawn area.
- On the upper and lower floors of the Goblin Garden.
- The area behind the Sphinx.
The Thaumaturgy Cantrip also offers other uses, as I realised much later on. For each time I got a 20 roll of the dice, I received +1 attribute each time. This only stacked 6 times, after which I received either +4 HP or random spell slots. If I couldn’t get a 20, and if I managed a 10, I would still get a spell slot or healing. Overall, the Thaumaturgy Cantrip did prove quite useful, not just in helping me uncover more lore, but also in receiving additional perks.

You can always return to the spot after gaining some strength, or start a new game with a high strength build.
Is using the Thaumaturgy Cantrip important?
The Thaumaturgy Cantrip helps uncover secrets within each area, so it is worth taking your time to learn the lore to help you piece together the clues of the tea shop.
