Key Points
- Prestiging a weapon brings its level back to one, resetting its entire progress.
- Prestiging a weapon only unlocks skins or cosmetics; it doesn’t add any weapon-related power to the gun.
- You will get the option to prestige a weapon once it reaches its highest tier, and access it via the weapon progression menu.
If you are not satisfied with the weapon’s overall appearance, then you can prestige the weapon to get a new skin for the gun. But, on the downside, you will lose all the attachments for the weapon, which also includes the attachment that you bought with Sludgite.
Prestige System Overview
| Prestige Levels | Lv. 1/ Lv.2/ Lv.3 |
| Unlocks | Skins |
| Requires | Weapon Tier Upgrades |
| Weapon XP Cap Limit | 3000 |
The only way to prestige a weapon is by hitting the maximum tier on the weapon. Do note that, compared to the primary weapons, secondary weapons level up much more quickly. So, if you want to farm for prestige, you can target the secondary weapons before moving to the primary ones.
Prestiging a Weapon

Generally, many players choose to carry out the prestige for a weapon after completing the game. Carrying the prestige in the middle of the game will severely hinder your gameplay, and you will struggle more to complete the missions. That’s why putting the prestige right at the end of the game makes more sense.
Besides the cosmetic improvement of the weapon, the prestige system doesn’t really add anything else to the table. The system will not improve the firepower, fire rate, capacity, or anything else on the gun. Here is the list of features a weapon will lose upon prestige:
- Level: Weapon will go back to Level 1
- Tiers: Prestige will also reset the weapon upgrade tiers.
- Attachments: Prestige will also get rid of all the attachments hooked to the weapon.
If you have a fully leveled-up gun with all the attachments, don’t try to prestige the weapon, or you will lose all the benefits for the weapon, making it weaker against foes. Now, let’s take a look at all the goodies you will get by prestiging a weapon:
- Premium exclusive camo for the weapon.
- More options for customizing the weapon’s appearance.
- Ability to put charms on a weapon.
Generally, you are gaining the ability to customize the weapon to your liking, especially if you have grown attached to a particular weapon.
FAQs
How many prestige levels does a weapon have?
You will find three prestige levels to a weapon; each one will unlock a new skin for the gun. Once you hit the level 3 wall, you will not get the option to prestige the weapon any further.
Why should I prestige a weapon?
For the cosmetic changes on a weapon, there is simply no reason to do it besides getting a new camo for the gun. Besides the appearance, prestiging a weapon doesn’t do anything else.
How to get a different cosmetic for a weapon in John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando?
Prestige a weapon in the weapon progression menu to get a new cosmetic for the weapon.
Does prestiging a weapon remove the attachments?
Yes, when you prestige a weapon, be warned that it will remove any attachment from the weapon. I will recommend not buying the attachment for the gun if you are planning on prestiging it. Only buy the attachment if you want to stick to the prestige level.
Note: You will not get the money back from the attachments once you prestige the weapon.
