Where Winds Meet – Where to get Wheat Rice

    By Amar DeogaonkarDecember 24, 2025Updated:July 31, 20263 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Wheat Rice can be purchased from a street vendor named ‘Niu Mang’.
    • You can find Niu Mang’s street cart in the Forsaken Quarter of Kaifeng City.
    • The quest for finding Wheat Rice is triggered by talking to Old Beggar and Little Beggar in the Forsaken Quarter.

In your haunts in the Forsaken Quarter of Kaifeng City, you may have come across a pair of down-on-their-luck NPCs. The father-son duo of Old Beggar and Little Beggar will ask you for a simple, nourishing dish called ‘Wheat Rice’.

Quest for the Wheat Rice is an NPC side quest in Where Winds Meet. You can buy this dish from a friendly food vendor called Niu Mang. And even better news is that he’s located a stone’s throw from the Beggar duo.

The image above displays the location of Niu Mang’s Noodle Stall in the Forsaken Quarter:

    How to get Wheat Rice

    1. Travel to the big hole in the Forsaken Quarter (refer to the image above)
    2. To the north side of this hole, you can find rows of houses.
    3. Locate Mang’s street cart between the first and second row of houses.
    4. Once you get close enough, you can see a Bowl icon on your mini-map.
    5. This bowl represents Mang. (It doesn’t show up on the World Map, only on the mini-map)
    6. Niu mang is an old man with a noodle cart (refer to the image below).
    7. Interact with him, and he will offer you a taste.
    8. Select ‘Let me have a taste’ prompt.
    9. Congratulations! You now have a Wheat Rice dish in your possession.
    10. Travel back to the Old Beggar and Little Beggar.

    SPOILERS BELOW

Now you can go back and offer the nourishment to the father-son duo. However, in a tragic turn of events, your noble quest will yield no results. The Little Beggar will die by starvation, no matter how quickly you bring them the required food item.

This will trigger a gut-wrenching animation, with Old Beggar mourning his son’s death. What’s worse is that you will end up with the Wheat Rice in your inventory – a sad reminder of the Little Beggar’s death. But the game should continue, and you can pick up the Honest Shovel Encounter later on to get better rewards.

    FAQs

Is there a way to save the Little Beggar?

Sadly, No. No matter how much you rush, the child will ultimately die when you return with the food.

Can I gather ingredients and cook this dish?

No. You can only buy this dish from Niu Mang in the Forsaken Quarter of Kaifeng City. The dish also offers an interesting buff, so I recommend that you pick up multiple Wheat Rice dishes during your visit to Mang.

What are the benefits of consuming the Wheat Rice dish?

Eating Wheat Rice will offer you a 10% chance of harvesting extra herbs from herb gathering. This buff will last for 10 minutes. Like all other food dish buffs, this effect cannot be stacked with any other buff.

Can I offer any other dishes in my inventory to the Old Beggar and the Little Beggar?

No. You will need to travel to Mang’s Noodle Stall and bring back the Wheat Rice, as specifically requested by the Old Beggar. No other dish will be accepted.
