How to Unlock Ogden’s Theory Side Quest

Ogden’s Theory side quest unlocks after completing the first quest from Ogden called “A Letter from an Unknown Sender”. If you haven’t reached this far, then you need to unlock Azuria Castle first. For me, the castle unlocked after picking up the main story quest called “Amara’s Child”, right after I was done unlocking the Habitat Restoration function. While completing the Amara’s Child quest, I just had to watch the starting cutscene of the quest until I got free rein of my character again to roam.
In case you wish to know which cutscene I am talking about, it is right after meeting up with Rudy near the castle. Rudy eventually led me to a meeting point between Glazer, Arken, and Romney. I also got a glimpse of my character’s past during the conversation with Simon about my character’s first Rathalos. Once the cutscene ended and I could free roam again, I headed straight to the Ranger’s Mess.

I could finally speak to Ogden here and pick up his first side quest, “A Letter from an Unknown Sender”. This side quest is fairly straightforward; all I had to do was help Odgen locate and defeat the Exotic Velocidrome. Once that was done, I continued to follow the main story quest until I completed the Forbidden Ground quest at Sheparden and set up a base there. Following this, Ogden offered another quest for me to pick up, which led to Ogden’s Theory.
How to Complete Ogden’s Theory Side Quest
To start the Ogden’s Theory side quest, I met him at the camp in the western section of Sheparden. Speaking to him unlocked my next quest objective, which is to seek out the Exotic Seregios and defeat it for Ogden. Before you venture forward, you need to own two particular monsties in your party:
- Any flying monstie
- Arzuros

While checking the map after picking up the quest, I spotted a quest marker that led me to Canalta Timberland’s Blessing Hill. Upon reaching the Blackwoods Catavan Stand, follow the river north until an opening is revealed on the right. Go up the hill and continue east until the path turns west upwards. Continue up that path, then fly across the gap. Keep going uphill to find the quest marker ahead.
After the cutscene ends, travel south to find another quest marker near a tree. Once that cutscene ended, my quest objective changed. I had to find a way to lure the Exotic Seregios using an Arzuros. Luckily, since I already owned an Arzuros in my team, I could use it to ride towards the tree quest marker. This triggered the Exotic Seregios boss fight.
How to Defeat the Exotic Seregios

- Weakness: Thunder (most weak), Ice (weak)
- Resistance: Fire (most resistant), Dragon (resistant)
- Elemental type: Non-elemental
The Exotic Seregios will be lured with Arzuros’ Honey Power, which will make it more reckless but less dangerous to your party. Seregios will attack using Speed first, and to counter it, I used Technique attacks. If you don’t have any reliable Technique attacks, wait for Seregios to switch to its Enraged state, where it will use Technique attacks instead. That way, you can use Power attacks to counter those.
If you plan to retire your Arzuros, don’t. I found out the hard way that Seregios will unleash its Shredding Scales attack after I retired Arzuros from my team. Unfortunately, Shredding Scales deals significantly more damage, which was enough to wipe out my team the first time.
While attacking Seregios, keep an eye on the connection line between it and your Arzuros. This indicates that the next attack is counterable. If uncounterable, as indicated by a red arrow, use Kinship attacks instead. In short, double attack whenever possible and keep a close eye on everyone’s health. Continue healing and counter as much as possible until the Seregios is defeated.
