How to Get a Smelter
The smelter comes alongside the Blacksmith building, and is found to the right side of the building’s exterior. If you haven’t unlocked the Blacksmith yet, you need to complete the Guardian of Minerva boss fight and defeat the Giant Owl to unlock the structure’s blueprint.
Defeating the Giant Owl

The Guardian of Minerva is the first boss encounter in the game, and you will find her hovering around your spawn point. Follow her shadow to find her resting spot and hit her eggs to have her spawn in. Even with your starting leather gear, you can defeat her. But I recommend waiting until you have some decent weapons
For ranged attacks, I recommend the Wooden Bow, or you can go melee with the Flint Gladius or Hasta. Also, take your time getting the Scroll of the Novice to unlock the Force Blast attack, which can deal massive damage to the boss. Unlocking all leather armor parts will help keep your defenses up for the fight. Once the owl is defeated, loot the rewards chest to get the Blacksmith blueprint.
Unlocking the Blacksmith
Once you have the Blacksmith blueprint, you need to farm some early game materials to build it. You will require:
- 5x Lumber
- 5x Stone
- 2x Clay
You can get lumber from felling trees around your base using an axe. Stones are also quite commonly found in mineral veins and require the pickaxe to get it. As for clay, you can find deep rust-colored areas near water bodies, and you need a bucket to transport clay.
Then, head over to the workbench with the materials to build a blacksmith station. You can assign a worker here by interacting with the town core and picking one of the citizens to become the blacksmith.
How to Smelt Ores

First off, you will require a source of fuel to power up the smelter. The best item to use here is coal, but during early game, you can use wood. All you need to do is select the fuel material from your inventory, then drag and drop it into the fireplace of the smelter. Then, pick up your ore that you would like to smelt and toss that into the smelter too. With that, you can now craft better weapons and armor, which will help you explore the rest of the overworld.
