Half Sword – How to Progress Rank

    By Kirthana KFebruary 2, 2026Updated:February 2, 20263 Mins Read

    Key Points

    • Initially, you need to clear the Beggar tourney and collect points to rank up.
    • Ranking up is essential in Progression mode to unlock new levels, weapons, and gear.
    • Take the help of mercenaries and loot enemy gear to get better in the game.

Half Sword is all about progression to help make your character stronger. The more you level up, the better you get in the game. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t do a good job on explaining the best ways to rank up, so you might have to do some digging to know how to progress efficiently.

Half Sword – How to Unlock the Tourney

First, you need to select Progression mode. Then, select the Jester at the Inn to find and choose several low-level arenas. Participate in these arenas first to collect points. Also, within the Fight menu, you will spot the Rank Up progression bar. Once this bar is filled up, rest for a night and check the Fight menu again to unlock your beginner tournament – the Beggar Tourney.

    Tips to Rank Up Early

    • Always hire mercenaries to help you win fights. You get to hire them from the Training menu at the Inn.
    • If you don’t have the money to recruit them, you can still press the Pay option. Money will be deducted after you win some gold.
    • After killing your target, don’t forget to loot any weapon or armor they have to use them later.
    • You can also steal the armor off any fallen mercs and equip them as well.
    • Always keep your best gear insured, as this will keep it in a chest even if you die.
    • If the damage you take seems a bit extensive, you can always tweak the “player damage” setting from the settings menu and reduce it.
    • If you think you are going to die, it is best to select the Give Up option beforehand and lose rather than being sent to the Abyss and losing your character permanently.
    • The pitchfork or any long-range weapon is great to use during early tournaments, as they are lightweight and also offer ranged attacks.
    • Don’t forget to visit the Armory and the Merchant to enhance your gear and purchase new items.

    How to Get Stronger

It is important to get physically stronger so you can wield heavy weapons and armor. To build muscle at the start of the game, participating in hand-to-hand combat helps. The more you use your fists, the more muscle you get to build. Equipping heavy armor on your character will also help increase muscle mass. Performing physical activities with heavy armor will quickly help you out.
