How to Get the Axe and Dagger
The closest beacon that helped me reach the Shrine of Trails was the Mushroom Village beacon. From the beacon, travel west to find a quest marker that will indicate where the axe and dagger are hidden. While going west, you will encounter a large locked doorway that requires the Mushroom Village Key to unlock it.
Mushroom Village Key Location
To find the key, backtrack to the beacon and continue east. Look to your right to find a large pyre and a bridge leading up to it. Cross the bridge and walk over to the large stone archway right next to the pyre. If you look through the archway, you will notice a statue near the pyre that isn’t visible otherwise. Pass through the arch and grab the Mushroom Key at the base of the statue, near the dangling rope.
Navigating the Shrine of Trails
Head back to the shrine entrance and use the key here to gain access. Walk into the pool in the middle of the room to enter the inner tunnels. There are a few enemies here, so defeat them first. After that, make your way to the end of the passage and interact with the statue here. The statue will reveal a riddle.
To solve the riddle and gain access to the next room, stand in front of the large stone wall opposite the statue. Your character should be touching the wall. Then, turn around and keep your gaze on the statue while moving backwards. The wall will automatically give way, revealing the next puzzle room.
Shrine of Trails Puzzle Solution
Enter the room and defeat the enemies first, then collect the Gloom to the left of the entrance. While navigating the room, you will notice a raised platform on the floor towards the left corner. Stepping on the platform will unlock the wall to the next room, but stepping away from it will close it.
What I did to solve the puzzle was to move the large pedestal around the room to have it land on the raised platform. Look at the tracks on the floor around the pedestal to know where to push it to. I pushed the pedestal straight ahead first, then to the left to place it right above the raised platform. This will pull up the wall, and you can go through it to the next area.
There are a few more enemies to defeat in this room, so clear the area first and collect the Gloom. Then, search the ground to find two raised platforms. To solve this puzzle, move the leftmost pedestal (pedestal #1) upwards, then push it to the right. It should stop right above the raised platform on the right.
After that, push the rightmost pedestal (pedestal #2) upwards to make it land on the raised platform. Then, push pedestal #1 to the left to have that land on the second raised platform and unlock the next room.
Finding the Axe and Dagger
In the next room is a mini-boss who wields a two-handed weapon. This can make a boss a bit slow, so the best way I found to tackle him is to roll behind him and stab him in the back. If you are good with parrying, then telegraphing the boss should be a piece of cake.
Wait until he raises his sword to swing down and block, then repeat it once more to parry and stab him. Rinse and repeat a few times to take him down, which shouldn’t take too long. Then, investigate the pedestal in the room to collect the Axe and Dagger.
