Key Points
- Portals let you fast travel across Orbis and avoid dangerous or time-consuming journeys.
- You must upgrade your Workbench and craft an Arcanist’s Workbench to unlock portals.
- Portal limits increase as you unlock and submit Memories at the Forgotten Temple.
Exploring Hytale maps can take hours on foot, especially with hostile creatures in the way. Portals solve this problem by allowing instant travel between key locations you’ve set up. While they require some preparation to unlock, portals quickly become one of the most useful tools in Hytale once you reach midgame.
Hytale Portals Overview
| Distance Limit | No limits travel in your observed map area |
| Time Duration | Instant Travel |
| Recipe | 8 Azure Logs, 2 Azure Kelp, 10 Any Stone |
Portals (also known as Teleporters) act as Hytale’s built-in fast-travel system. Once placed, they allow you to warp between locations anywhere in the world instantly, provided you have traveled there once before.
Portals are crafted in pairs and can be linked together in flexible ways, letting you create anything from a simple home warp to a full transportation network spanning multiple biomes.
How To Make Portals in Hytale

Before you can craft portals, you must progress through several crafting upgrades, specifically upgrading your Workbench and crafting Arcanist’s Workbench. Upon doing that, you’ll be able to craft portals.
Step 1: Upgrade your Workbench to Tier 2
- 30x Copper Ingots – Smelt copper ore commonly found in shallow caves and underground veins in early biomes.
- 20x Iron Ingots – Smelt iron ore mined deeper underground, with higher concentrations at lower depths.
- 20x Linen Scraps – Dropped by humanoid enemies across multiple biomes.
Use the Upgrade option in the Workbench menu to level up to Tier 2. This upgrade applies to one workbench only.
Step 2: Craft the Arcanist’s Workbench
- 10x Thorium Ingots – Smelt thorium ore found in mountainous regions, deserts, and select midgame biomes.
- 30x Linen Scraps – Same as mentioned above
- 20x Essence of the Void – Obtained from glowing void creatures that spawn mainly at night.
Use your Tier 2 Workbench to craft Arcanist’s Workbench. This advanced workstation unlocks magical and portal-related recipes.
Step 3: Craft the Portal
- 8x Azure Logs – Harvested from blue-tinted trees in the Azure Forest biome.
- 2x Azure Kelp – Found in shallow ponds and rivers within the Azure Forest biome.
- 10x Any Stone – Can be found easily anywhere
On collecting these materials, you can now craft portals using the Arcanist’s Workbench. However, you cannot spam portals at will. Depending on your memory collection, you can place the following amounts:
- 2 portals – default
- 3 portals – 25 Memories
- 4 portals – 50 Memories
- 6 portals – 100 Memories
- 8+ portals – higher Memory milestones
How To Use Portals in Hytale

After you have created your portals, using them is a simple procedure:
- Place each portal at the locations you want to connect.
- Interact with a portal to open its configuration menu.
- Set a Warp Name so you can easily identify it later.
- Choose a Target Warp to determine where the portal sends you.
- Walk into the portal to instantly teleport to the selected destination.
You can link portals in any configuration you like. However, you need to travel to your desired portal location once.
