He will also encourage you to learn how to fish and get you started on this task.

How to Get a Fishing Rod
The Fish are Friends questline will introduce you to the world of fishing and getting a fishing rod, and I could get this quest from Kassim at Floating Village. In case you haven’t unlocked the questline yet, you need to complete all of Kassim’s prior quests first to get this quest as part of the main storyline. Specifically, I unlocked this quest after completing the Call from the Gardens questline.
Speaking to Kassim and unlocking the Fish are Friends questline will give you your first fishing rod blueprint named the Collector Rod. You will also get an optional quest objective to craft Pruners, and I would suggest getting Pruners first before crafting the Collector Rod.
How to Get Pruners
First, you need to craft Pruners. While it is an optional quest, you will require Pruners to help you cut down Rattan ferns. You need to collect the following items to craft Pruners:
- 10x Plastic Discards
- 10x Screws
- 2x Metal Plates
First, I would recommend making your way to Scrap Quarters in Loftia City to collect all the above items. To craft 1 Metal Plate, you need to find 5 Metal Scraps, and you can collect metal scraps by breaking down machines. You can also find Screws and Plastic Discards around the scrapyard too.
Then, make your way to the Refining Station to craft Metal Plates, then use all the items listed above at the Project Station to get Pruners.
How to Craft the Collector Rod
To craft the Collector Rod, you will require the following:
- 5x Rattan
- 5x Jute
- Plastic Sheet
You can collect Jute from the overworld. I can get Jute while checking the grassy areas on any of the maps. You can also break down baskets and other fabric materials to collect Jute. As for Rattan, you need to look for long ferns around the Hanging Gardens and cut them using Pruners. As for Plastic Sheet, you can craft it at the Refining Station using 5 Plastic Discards.
After obtaining all the materials, make your way to the Project Station to craft the Collector Rod. It will take 5 energy to craft 1 rod.
How to Fish
Now that you have your new rod, you can head over to any body of water to start fishing. While near a water source, look for ripples in the water, then use LMB to drag your line and drop it on the ripple. Then, you need to wait for the fishing mini-game to appear, and it’s a 50-50 chance for it to appear, depending on whether a fish is interested in your bobble.
After a fish catches on, the mini-game will appear on screen. The game is quite simple; all you need to do is wait until the fish lands on the light blue area and hit LMB. At some points, you will find a star, and landing on the star will improve your chances of getting the fish.

What do I do with the fishes?
You can hand over any caught fish to Kassim at Floating Village, or use the bins to see if they are accepting fish for donation.
What happens if I fail the fishing mini-game?
You can always try again in the same spot, as the fish are not going anywhere. You can also leave and try any other location too.

Fishing is an optional activity that you can partake in if it is to your liking. You might get other quests that will require you to get fish, so learning how to fish will help you out here.
