Key Points
- In a Piece of the Pie quest, you are tasked with selling swampweed for Lares and handing him the profits.
- You need to get the swampweed from Baal Isidro and sell them, but he requires some money from the sale too.
- You can pick up this quest in New Camp and decide who needs the money from the swampweed sale.
Some quests in Gothic 1 Remake are tangled with other quests, so it’s like hitting two birds with one stone. While picking up the Piece of Pie quest from Lares, you can also subsequently complete the Herb Merchant quest for Baal Isidro.

How to Complete A Piece of the Pie Quest

You start this quest by finding Lares in New Camp. If you haven’t found Lares yet, start from the New Camp entrance and follow the path to the left that leads up the hill. Follow the path until you reach the underground mining village right opposite the New Camp Tavern.
From the entrance, take the slope on the left and find a flight of stairs going up to your left. Go past the guards to find Roscoe guarding the entrance of Lares’ hut. Tell him you wish to speak to Lares, and you should have either Mordrag’s Ring or completed Diego’s Test of Faith quest to get the List of Requirements of the Old Mine to meet him.
You can then talk to Lares to get started on the quest, which requires you to steal swampweed from Baal Isidro, sell them, and collect the profits for Lares.
Getting Past the Guards

Baal Isidro is found inside New Camp Tavern, which is the building floating on water right outside the underground village. If you haven’t entered the tavern before, you will be stopped by the two guards standing outside. During my run, I found a way to get inside the tavern through the balcony window at the side of the building. Climb on top of the rocks nearby and dash-jump to the balcony.
The only drawback to this is that when I tried to exit the front entrance of the tavern, everyone turned hostile, so it’s best to exit the tavern through the window again. In my subsequent runs, I could get in by bribing the guards with 100 Nuggets. Another way to get in is to grab the free mining outfit from Swiney in the Free Mine and wear it to gain access.
Collecting the Smoke Rolls
You will find Baal Isidro right next to the entrance of the tavern. At first, he won’t cooperate when you speak to him, and I realised that I had to get him drunk first. Head straight to the bartender, Silas, and purchase Rice Schnapps, then hand it over to Baal Isidro. During the dialog options, pick the one that offers a 50-50 split of the sales. This will start the Herb Merchant quest simultaneously.
Completing the Quests

Now, you have to find a way to sell the stuff and get the profit that Lares asked for. If you wish to finish the quest quickly, you could do what I did and just hand over 400 Ore Nuggets out of pocket to Lares while keeping the rolls to yourself. You could then take the time and sell them to bandits and merchants to get your profit
I found the best way to sell the smoke rolls is to speak to either Silas or Cipher within the tavern itself. Or find the New Camp vendors like Sharky, Cronos, and Malon, and sell the rolls to them. Cipher is the only one who will purchase all the rolls for 400 Ores, and you can find him in the upper floor of the tavern or near the bartender. After selling everything, return to Baal Isidro and give him 200 Ores to complete his quest.

FAQs
What rewards will I get for completing the quests?
You will get 500 XP each from Lares and Baal Isidro, as well as Lares’ vote for you to join New Camp.
Why can’t I sell any Swampweed?
You need to complete Baal Kagan’s quest, Canvassing Customers, to unlock the selling feature for vendors. You will find Baal Kagan in the underground cave village near the entrance.
Why can’t I sell the Swampweed to Cipher?
If you had already sold some of the rolls to merchants and bandits, then you can’t sell to Cipher, since he requires all the rolls to give you 400 Ores.
