Heartopia is best enjoyed with friends, and you get to pick up several activities that require teamwork. At the start of your fishing hobby journey, Vanya will be the one to teach you the ropes. While most of the tasks she hands over are easy, finding the Flashing Fish Shadow is probably the hardest task assigned.

How to Start the Flashing Fish Shadow Quest
The Fishing hobby is one of the first hobbies I could unlock by default, and I had to speak to Vanya to learn how to fish. Vanya is located in the northern section of Garden Street, so I quickly made my way over there to get the rest of the fishing quests. Vanya taught me how to create Bait at the workbench and use it to fish.
Getting the Mermaid Fish Attractor
Next, you will receive a call from Vanya about a new item: the Mermaid Fish Attractor. This item is used to capture legendary fishes, like the Flashing Fish Shadow. After a short tutorial on how to use the Fish Attractor, call up Vanya to get the next objective.
Start the Fishing Event
Head over to Fishing Village and speak to Bill. Select the Sea Fishing Event option, then select a boat option. Then, board the boat and interact with the captain to start inviting your friends. Once your friends have joined you, you get to start the event.
Find the Flashing Fish Shadow
Next, toss in the Mermaid Fish Attractor from your inventory into the water and start fishing. Here are some tips to find the Flashing Fish Shadow:
- Look out for a fish with a blue glow. This fish will stand out from the other fish that are just black or golden.
- You need to have your friends fish within the Fish Attractor circle to catch the Flashing Fish Shadow.
- Catching fish quickly will have the Flashing Fish Shadow spawn much faster.
- It will usually take around 5 – 6 catches before the Flashing Fish Shadow appears.
- The more people who join in to catch the fish, the better your chances will be.
- If you don’t catch the fish the first time, toss in another Fish Attractor to try again. You could always buy more Fish Attractors from Vanya.
Once you have the Flashing Fish Shadow, head back to shore and speak to Vanya to complete the quest.
