Key Points
- Zombie bites are the least of your worries; you can get infected, sick, and constantly find yourself coughing in HumanitZ.
- All diseases can be treated, and some can be suppressed for a long time.
- Make sure to have the Work Bench and Crafting Station set up to help you craft the items to treat the diseases.
HumanitZ is a brutal world; every piece of action has a line of sometimes well-hidden consequences waiting at the end. In this messed-up, zombie-infested world, diseases can easily pile up, pushing you slowly towards an untimely death. Luckily, there are ways you can prevent certain diseases from taking place and possibly cure them to breathe another day.
HumanitZ Diseases & Cures Overview
| Disease Effect | Permanent/ Temporary |
| Curable? | Yes (In most cases) |
| Medicinal Items Findings | RNG system with Traders and Containers |
| Craftable | Yes |
Many medicinal items can be found in certain containers, or they can be traded off from any random NPC you come across on the street. Always have a pair of clothes and other goods in your inventory for a possible trade-off. Since most items have an RNG system hooked to them, the same rule goes for the trading as well; you might find a trader with a bottle of painkillers or a Medkit.
All Diseases and Status Effects

Here, we will take a look at all the status effects that can hurt your run.
Bleeding
Status Effect: Can lead to death, as you will lose HP.
Taking too many zombie bites or swings to your body can leave you with the bleeding status effect. Head to your inventory and use Rags to treat your wound and stop the bleeding. If you don’t have Rags, craft it by spending x2 Fibers (Obtainable from Bushes).
Note: Rags can be used to treat your wounds to restore 10 HP. A perfect early game healing item, so always collect Fibers to craft Rags. You can find more essential tips about the game by checking our guide.
Infection
Status Effect: Will lead to death and has no cure. You will see a green circle with a skull in the middle, next to your HP HUD, indicating your Infection status.
Getting infected is a deadly way to die; you can’t fully cure an infection, but you can suppress it by using an infection inhibitor and Infection Treatment. If you get hit by a zombie or Zeeks, you will get a small infection rate, but getting bitten will increase the infection rate to 50%.
Note: First, you must build a Chemistry Station to craft Infection Inhibitor and Infection Treatment.
Sickness
Status Effect: Attracts zombies, doesn’t have any negative effects on your health.
If you catch your character coughing, then it is a sign of sickness. If you are not wearing insulated clothes in winter, the chances are you are going to get a cold, which will lead to coughing.
Quickly wear a mask to prevent your co op partners from catching the sickness. The ideal way to treat sickness is by popping up Dex Cough Medicine. You will find the cough medicine in the cabinets and cupboards in the bathroom. The item can also be obtained from traders.
Food Poisoning
Status Effect: Your character will stop to throw up in the middle of any action.
I get it, I also ate a lot of spoiled food in the wilderness, hunting for items at night. Eating whatever without checking can get you up with food poisoning.
Here, take an Antibiotic Tablet to speed up the process of removing food poisoning from your body. One Antibiotic Tablet is sufficient; taking more will not decrease the status or help you out in any other way.
Note: The status of Food Poisoning lasts for 1.5 Days. Taking an antibiotic will speed up the process, but it will never instantly heal you from Food Poisoning.
Tiring
Status Effect: Stats will decrease faster.
If your character is tired, then you need to rest as quickly as possible. Luckily, you can sleep anywhere in the world without needing a bed. Press Z on your keyboard, and choose the option to Sleep. But be wary that you don’t sleep around zombies or zeeks.
FAQs
What are other ways to cure infection in HumanitZ?
You will see the infection sign or logo once the infection rate reaches 10% on your HUD. Do note, respawning after death cures infection, or you can always load the previous save file upon infection to technically “cure” it.
How do I prevent sickness in HumanitZ?
You are allowed to prevent any form of sickness by taking MultiVit Tablets. The tablets can easily be traded off or looted from containers, especially inside bathroom cabinets.
What are the items needed to craft the Infection Inhibitor?
Early on, you will have access to Infection Inhibitor. A single Infection Inhibitor will require x2 Pain Killers, x2 Antibiotic Tablets, x2 Multi Vitamin Tablets, and 1x Dex Cough Medicine to craft it. All the items needed can be looted or traded with NPCs in the world. Since the materials are on the rarer side, prepare to trade some high-quality goods for them.
