When Does the Cat Spawn

The cat is one of the enemy types that appear in the game. The spawn rate for cats varies depending on the gameplay. There is no fixed time or trigger to find the cat, unlike the Evil Gnome that spawns after killing the old man. Sometimes, the cat will appear indoors in random rooms, while other times, it will appear outdoors and try to make its way inside.
Personally, throughout my time in the game, I have encountered the cat just twice in random matches. I found the cat more frequently during exceptionally long runs during a match rather than shorter trips. I thought that the spawn rate of rats might trigger the cat to spawn, but these two don’t seem to correlate with each other. Sometimes, I could complete matches without any cat encounter at all.
How to Deal with the Cat

Like most enemies in the game, cats can be killed using weapons. I was lucky enough to get the gun early in the game during a match, which I promptly used to kill the cat outright. If you wish for a more non-lethal approach, I recommend sneaking around the cat’s nearby vicinity instead.
Use furniture and objects to take cover and break the cat’s line of sight if it spots you. Hiding inside drawers also works as a way to escape the cat. If the cat gets too close, grab and toss items to distract it away from you.
During some of my playthroughs, I noticed the cat spawns outdoors. In that case, my team and I had to double-check all the rooms to close any open windows or doors. This was the easiest method to keep the cat out for good. You can also lure the cat outside by using a dead mouse, or sacrifice yourself or a friend for the cause.
I also figured out that trapping a rat and leaving the trap around for the cat would also distract it for a while, giving us enough time to make our escape.
If the cat still seems to hinder your progress throughout the game, then the only solution left is to exfil early and start a new match.
