2025 has been a great year for independent creatives in gaming. Many titles felt like they came out of nowhere, without fanfare, and won over the crowd instantly. Picking up a title worthy of people’s time is no easy feat. We have compiled eight of the best indie titles based on their genre-bending experience and the uniqueness they added to the game industry. Here are the best eight indie games of 2025.
Blue Prince

| Publisher | Raw Fury |
| Developer | Dogubomb |
| Platform | PS5, Xbox Series X & S, Steam |
| Genre | Puzzle/ Exploration/ Mystery |
| Release Date | April 10, 2025 |
Merging roguelike elements with the puzzle genre is a risky move in a video game, but Blue Prince successfully fused the two together to make something unique that baffled many critics and players alike. If you are hungry for a unique game to wow you in every scene, something that you have never played before, then you must play Blue Prince. This game’s concept is as unique as its gameplay; it is addictive, engaging, and will keep you on hook for hours. It is one of those games that should bear the title of “The less you know, the better.” It’s better to go in knowing as little as possible about it.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

| Publisher | Kepler Interactive |
| Developer | Sandfall Interactive |
| Platform | PlayStation 5/ Xbox Series X & S/ Steam |
| Genre | Turn-Based Combat/ Story Rich/ Fantasy |

Expedition 33 was on the tongue of anyone who decided to pick up the game in April of 2025. The game’s emotional storytelling and the voice actor’s performances wowed many players, even some who don’t touch turn-based RPG video games. Expeditions 33 quickly became the success story of a few people with ambitions, creating a masterpiece out of the blue. Many have claimed the title to be their game of the year, and very few will argue with them. If you are looking for an emotional rollercoaster ride, then Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the title you need on your list.
The Alters

| Publisher | 11 Bit Studios |
| Developer | 11 Bit Studios |
| Platform | PlayStation 5/ Xbox Series X & S/ Steam |
| Genre | Survival/ Base Building/ Management |
| Release Date | 13 June, 2025 |
Alters is still an underrated gem of 2025, having played Frostpunk and War is Mine by 11 Bit Studios, I was expecting a good game, and they delivered by exceeding my expectations. The best thing about Alter, besides the engaging survival gameplay, is the personalized story that focuses on many sensitive issues with the proper handling of such topics. A game that sheds light on many humane issues that plague many men and women in their day-to-day lives. It is an experience only a few games dare to touch, and Alter’s storyline tackles these issues beautifully with an amazing soundtrack and gameplay to keep you on the hook for more than 10 to 15 hours.
Deltarune

| Publisher | Toby Fox |
| Developer | Toby Fox |
| Platform | PS4, PS5/ Xbox Series X-S/ Nintendo Switch 2/ Steam |
| Genre | Story RIch/ Great Soundtrack |
| Release Date | June 4, 2025 |
Following Undertale is not an easy task, as the bar was set as high as humanly possible. But Toby Fox has done it again with the release of Deltarune. Now you can play Chapters 1 to 4, one after another, on a number of devices. The game features a cast of interesting characters, joyful music, and a certain number of dark themes that creep up to still add the feeling of something wrong during gameplay. The gameplay is stronger, the characters are deeper, and the music is always charming, as it was in Undertale. This is one of the titles; one can easily tell it has a soul in its algorithm.
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

| Publisher | Awaken Realms |
| Developer | Questline |
| Platform | PS5/ Xbox Series X-S/ Steam |
| Genre | Open-World/ RPG/ Adventure |
| Release Date | 23 May, 2025 |
Open world RPG in a dark fantasy world that delivers an engaging story with gameplay that keeps players on the hook. The game manages to pull all of it while carrying the title of an indie game. Many have compared it to the style of Elder Scrolls Skyrim, and rightfully so. The game has the exploration part locked in, and it puts you in a world that wants your presence. If you are looking for a game that you can sink most of your time into by engaging in voice-acted quests, RPG gameplay with a variety of builds, large zones, and more, then you need to add Tainted Grail to your list of indie games.
Hollow Knight: Silksong

| Publisher | Team Cherry |
| Developer | Team Cherry |
| Platform | PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X-S, Xbox One, Switch, Steam |
| Genre | Metroidvania/ Difficult/ Great Soundtrack |
| Release Date | 4 September, 2025 |
Expectations are already a hard-to-reach goal, especially in the world of video games. But Silksong will go down as one such title that lived up to the people’s expectations. After making the fans wait for 6 years with trailers and teasers, the game was released to as much fanfare as a game could get in the modern age. And the Metrovania title did exceed many people’s expectations by bringing a much better version of the original Hollow Knight. The combat felt smoother, the characters felt unique, and the whole game has more content than the price tag it has on its sleeve.
Absolum

| Publisher | Dotemu |
| Developer | Guard Crush Games Supamonks |
| Platform | PlayStation 4, 5/ Nintendo Switch 1, 2/ Steam |
| Genre | Beat’em up/ Roguelite/ Fantasy |
| Release Date | October 9, 2025 |
If you are looking for a sleeper hit of 2025, then you need to look at Absolum. The game came out of nowhere and grabbed the interest of many players on Steam. Just as Blue Prince, which combined the thrill of roguelike with puzzle-solving, Absolum married the concept of roguelike to beat’em up. This unholy matrimony of two genres did work, as the combat felt smooth and the roguelike elements added variety to the game. Getting better at the game did feel rewarding, as the beat’em up mechanics made the combat more hooked and engaging from the start to the end.

| Publisher | Electronic Arts |
| Developer | Hazelight Studios |
