Completing the Old Friends requirement is one of the crucial steps for 100% ing the General’s Shrine. These ‘old friends’ are six sentient characters. You need to chat with three of them and battle the other three to complete this requirement.

Old Friend 1 – Wang Duolu
When you meet Wang Duolu, he’s on the verge of giving up his lifelong dream of being an expert fisherman. You need to motivate and encourage him to keep on pursuing his dream. After a couple of positive nudges, he will thank you for inspiring him, and you’ll complete your first old friend requirement!
Old Friend 2 – Lie Buxi
Lie Buxi is worried about her brothers, who were last seen near the ruins. She will ask you if you have seen them. The key here is convincing her that her brothers and her father are in good health. She will be suspicious at first and ask you for proof.
Just say that you have a letter from her father that says that he misses her or loves her. After you say that you have proof (like a letter from her father) she will be convinced, and you will have a second friend.
Old Friend 3 – Fang Xu
Fang XU is bound by the Well of Heaven rules, requiring him to spend all of his earnings every week. Your task is to provide him with a solution that helps him spend his money wisely. There are multiple ways to help him solve his problem.
You can ask him to reward his money to some of the best warriors by hosting a tournament, ask him to donate the riches to scholars in the area, or distribute it amongst the needy. After a couple of rounds of back-and-forth, he will thank you for suggesting an option and befriend you.
Old Friend 4 – Du Qiaoxian
You can find Du Qiaoxian, worried about her sick child. After a couple of dialogue exchanges, challenge her to a duel. Defeat her, and you will end up completing the old friend requirement for General’s Shrine.
Old Friend 5 – Elder Gongsun
You need to challenge this character to a duel. You can find him practicing his Tai-Chi. He might refuse your call to fight at first, but he will eventually accept after being prodded a couple of times. Defeat them, and you will have completed the old friend requirement.
Old Friend 6 – Yuan Jin’gang
You can find Yuan Jin’gang solemnly drinking outside the fighting arena. You just need to challenge him to a duel. Defeat him, and you will complete the old friend requirement.
FAQs
Why can’t I engage in conversation in Fang XU?
Some players have reported a bug that prevents them from talking to Fang XU. There is a simple workaround:
- Approach Fang XU.
- Go to Settings and change the language to Chinese.
- Engage in dialogue.
- Quit the dialogue and move away from Fang XU.
- Change the language back to English (or your preferred language)
- Approach Fang XU once again.
- You should now be able to converse with his AI Chatbot.
Why can’t I befriend Wang Duolu?
You might be trying with the wrong Wang Duolu. There are two NPCs with that same name in the Qinghe region. One is located to the North of the Shrine, while another is located to the South, near the Boundary Stone of the General’s Shrine. Make sure you’re chatting with one of the South. You can play a fishing mini-game with the Northside Wang, but you’ll need to befriend the Fisherman Wang located to the South to complete General’s Shrine Old Friends.
How can I convince Lie Buxi to trust me?
Tell her that you have seen her brothers, that they are great warriors, and reaffirm that you have seen them near ruins to the north. After a couple of rounds of back-and-forth, and you offering proof (simply saying that you have a letter or a piece of memorabilia from her father or brothers).
