Key Points
- You earn Basic Essence and Advanced Essence by completing Quests and dismantling equipment.
- Basic Essence will be in a silver cube icon, and Advanced Essence will have a golden cube format.
- The Essences are then used to ‘Reforge’ – essentially, swap one attribute on that particular equipment.
While you will get a good amount of Basic Essence and Advanced Essence by completing Quests, I would recommend dismantling any low-grade equipment loot (Tier 1/2/3 and all rarities) to farm the Basic and Advanced Essence in the R.I.P. Reincarnation Insurance Program.
R.I.P. Reincarnation Insurance Program – Basic and Advanced Essence Overview
| Type | Materials |
| Purpose | Reforge |
| Farmable? | Yes |
Basic Essence can be earned in a good amount after dismantling almost every type of equipment, and Advanced Essence can only be earned by dismantling Legendary and Mythic rarity items in the R.I.P. Reincarnation Insurance Program.
Using Basic and Advanced Essence in R.I.P
- First, talk to Artisan and under “Dismantle,” break any unnecessary equipment in your possession. You can dismantle every type of gun and armor to get Basic and Advanced Essence.
- Once that’s done, choose the second option to Reforge. Reforge allows you to swap any attribute of the weapon or armor with a new one. Do note that you are allowed to swap only one attribute of a piece of equipment out of the rest.
- Since a weapon can have four to six attributes, always be careful when choosing one and forget the rest.
If you are building your character towards a Tactical focus, then attributes towards other Auxiliary or Dash will be useless. Here, you can choose to swap the Dash or Auxiliary attribute with a useful one.

If you look at the picture above, I decided to replace the second attribute of the Wristband equipment. I’m swapping the second attribute, “Damage VS 100% HP,“ of the Wristband, which locks the rest of the attribute from Reforging.
Note: When you are swapping an attribute, you will always get a random one from the “Possible Attributes from Reforging” list. That’s why farming Basic and Advanced Essence becomes important for reforging a gear.
Once the second attribute is swapped or reforged, I will only be allowed to swap or reforge the second attribute as many times as I want, but I won’t be able to make changes to the other attributes, only the second. If you have played Tom Clancy’s Division series, you would be familiar with the concept.
Cost of Reforging
When you are swapping a common attribute, it will cost you 20x Basic Essence and Credits (Money). The attribute written in white will count towards common attributes, making changes to them will cost less.
But if you want to swap or reforge the skill of an equipment, written in yellow or orange, then you will need to spend x40 Basic Essence, 1x Advanced Essence, and Credits.
If you look at the picture above, the [Auxiliary Weapon] and [Weapon] skills of the Wristband will require more essence investment compared to the common ones.
FAQs
Why should I reforge?
Making changes to the unnecessary attribute to a usable one will help you run better. If you are gearing towards Tactical, Weapon, or Auxiliary focused, then you can swap the one that you don’t need to stay active.
How many times can I reforge an attribute of an item of equipment?
You can do it as many times as you want, but do remember that once you have swapped an attribute, the rest of the equipment’s attribute and skills gets locked. Which means, you will not be able to swap them; you will only swap the one that you choose first. So always pick the one that needs a replacement.
Where can I farm Basic and Advanced Essence?
Dismantling equipment will earn you a healthy amount of essence farming. Besides the dismantling, you can complete the Quests and their various challenges to earn a good amount of Basic and Advanced Essence in the R.I.P. Reincarnation Insurance Program.
